Linde Werdelin Oktopus Moon Carbon
Linde Werdelin Oktopus Moon Carbon
Pioneering case construction and innovative materials have long been Linde Werdelin bywords. Representing landmark technology in material design is a newcomer to the Oktopus Moon collection: Oktopus Moon Carbon
The idea
“Designing the Oktopus Moon Carbon begins with choosing the best material for each part of the case for its function. We set out to bring a black addition to the Moon collection, and ended up with a carbon material that can be sculpted to produce a fine layered finish, devised to enhance the geometric architecture of the Oktopus case,” Morten Linde, co-founder and creative mind of Linde Werdelin.
The case & material
Linde Werdelin fuses modern case sculpture with landmark carbon technology to create an exceptional timepiece. The design of the Oktopus Moon Carbon dictates the choice of a breakthrough material, developed in 3DTP™ technology, for its outercase to produce the desired case finishing. 3DTP™ – or 3-Dimensional Thin Ply – has been conceived from the heart of the Swiss Jura over a number of years. It is in a uniquely enviable position of merging material design with the art of watchmaking. *As such, an unrivalled level of high precision and quality are the prerequisites. For the Oktopus Moon Carbon, more than 2 years of research and development has gone in to perfect the challenging technique of compressing carbon fibres into shape. It then takes another lengthy handcrafting process to arrive at a sculpted watchcase that is accentuated by its finely striped facets with a delicate sheen.
*“This is the very first time a carbon material has been formulated to produce the desired aesthetics for our Oktopus case,“ says Jorn Werdelin, co-founder and guiding spirit of Linde Werdelin. Unlike conventional carbon materials developed for industrial purposes (such as those for nautical, automotive, and aerospace manufacturing,) the stringent tolerance in high craftsmanship of watchmaking demands absolute precision in the surface finishing.
The dial & movement
The Oktopus Moon Carbon features an exceptionally complex dial construction in 5 layers, procuring a sensation of depth from its open work and striking colour contrast. The top dial comes in 3 layers in a special house-blend brown and satin finish. Linde Werdelin’s iconic in-house moonphase complication with photorealistic moons is mounted on a gold rotating disc equipped with a red full-moon indicator. The solid 18k rose gold crown is engraved with an octopus motif. The back case is decorated with the new three-layered octopus engraving, hand-drawn by co-founder and creative mind Morten Linde, as well as the limited edition serial number.
The Oktopus Moon Carbon is now the sixth in the Oktopus Moon collection, after the BluMoon, the MoonLite, the Moon Tattoo, the Moon Gold, and the Moon Black. It comes in a 44mm (w) by 46mm (l) case, and an interchangeable top-grade natural rubber strap in chocolate brown. It is available from CHF19,000 excluding VAT, in an exclusive series of 59 pieces worldwide.
