LONGINES SINGAPORE GOLD CUP 2014 RAISES S$241,616 FOR CHARITY

Longines Singapore Gold Cup 2014 returned for its fifth run at Singapore Turf Club, with His Excellency, President Tony Tan Keng Yam as the guest-of-honour. In conjunction to the event, Longines hosted a charity luncheon and raised a total of S$241,616 for Rainbow Centre - Margaret Drive School, a programme supported by Community Chest. The Singapore Gold Cup was also enhanced by the presence of Eddie Peng, who made his first official appearance in Singapore as Longines Ambassador of Elegance.

Dubbed the ‘crown jewel event of local turf’, Longines Singapore Gold Cup 2014 saw some of the best thoroughbreds contesting for the S$1.35 million prize purse, making it one of the most prestigious equestrian sporting events in the region. Corey Brown on Quechua emerged victorious as they dashed first to the finishing line, joining the excellency of other valiant racing legends who had made triumphant conquests in this illustrious race. In recognition of their merits, Longines timepieces from the Conquest Classic collection were presented to the winning jockey, Corey Brown, the trainer, Patrick Shaw and owner, Emily Hwang.

Adding to the stellar factor was the presence of Eddie Peng. Lauded as Asia’s new generation action hero, this marks his first official appearance in Singapore as Longines Ambassador of Elegance. Describing the event, he commented, “It is a privilege to be here at one of Singapore's most prestigious horse-racing events. For me, it's always exciting just to see the stature and strength of race-horses in action. I have utmost respect for these amazing and elegant creatures.”

Since 2010, Longines has maintained the tradition of designating Singapore Gold Cup day as an annual Charity Race Day. This year, funds raised from the charity auction will go to Longines’ adopted charity, Rainbow Centre - Margaret Drive School, a non-profit organisation supported by Community Chest for students with special needs. Auction pieces include a collection of hats in the seven colours representing the rainbow with matching accessories handpicked by students from Rainbow Centre and a beautiful 18k rose gold timepiece from the Conquest Classic collection. Funds raised will be matched $1-to-$1 by the Government under the Care & Share Movement, which is a national fund-raising and volunteerism movement led by Community Chest for the social service sector, as Singapore approaches its 50th year of independence in 2015. The matched amount will go towards building the capabilities and capacities of the social service sector to meet rising needs.

“We are honoured to partner with Singapore Turf Club to present the Longines Singapore Gold Cup for the fifth time. The event creates a nonpareil social networking platform and culminates prominent personalities across industry to come together for a charitable cause,” emphasised Mr. Juan-Carlos Capelli, Longines Vice-President and Head of International Marketing.

The Official Watch of the Longines Singapore Gold Cup 2014 was a model in steel and rose gold from the Conquest Classic collection. With a diameter of 41 mm, this timepiece houses a mechanical caliber. Just as the entire collection Conquest Classic, this timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire glass.
