FEI World Equestrian Games Tryon 2018

As the Official Partner, Timekeeper and Watch of the FEI World Equestrian GamesTM Tryon 2018, currently taking place in North Carolina, Longines is thrilled to be part of this year’s event, hosting 349 athletes from 54 countries. The first week saw some spectacular contests and victories in the disciplines of Dressage, Eventing and Reining – the Endurance ride having been cancelled due to extreme weather conditions potentially dangerous for the horses’ welfare.

The spectators of this unique equestrian rendezvous notably saw the victory of Team Germany, who earned first place in the Dressage Team competition held on Thursday. On Friday, German rider Isabell Werth on Bella Rose won the individual Dressage title. In Reining, the team competition was won by Team USA, while the individual was claimed by Bernard Fonck (BEL) on What a Wave. Finally, the discipline of Eventing saw the victory of Great Britain’s representatives both in team and individually with the win of Rosalind Canter and Allstar B. Longines was delighted to congratulate the medallists by rewarding them elegant timepieces.

The first week of the FEI World Equestrian GamesTM Tryon 2018 – gathering a total of 349 athletes from 54 countries – was concluded today instead of Sunday due to heavy rains on on the weekend caused by Hurricane Florence. In Eventing, riders took part individually and in team in four days of competition including the Dressage and Cross Country trials, and ending today with the Jumping. In this context, Team Great Britain (composed of Rosalind Canter and Allstar B, Gemma Tattersall and Arctic Soul, Piggy French and Quarrycrest Echo and Tom McEwen and Toledo de Kerser) took the win followed by Team Ireland and Team France. In the Individuals, Rosalind Canter (GB) and her mount Allstar B set themselves apart by winning the gold medal. They were followed by Padraig McCarthy (IRL) on Mr Chunky and Ingrid Klimke (GER) and SAP Hale Bob OLD.

In Dressage, great moments of elegance and performance were offered by Isabell Werth (GER) on Bella Rose, who captured the Dressage Individual title on Friday ahead of Laura Graves (USA) on Verdades and British rider Charlotte Dujardin on Mount St. John. In addition, the team competition was claimed by Team Germany composed of Isabell Werth on Bella Rose, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on TSF Dalera BB, Dorothee Scheider on Sammy Davis Jr. and Sönke Rothenberger on Cosmo. American representatives and Team Great Britain respectively secured second and third place. Unfortunately, due to rainfalls on Sunday, the Dressage Individual Grand Prix Freestyle had to be cancelled.

Finally, the discipline of Reining has seen the victory of Team USA on home soil ahead of Team Belgium and German representatives. In the Individuals, Belgian rider Bernard Fonck and his mount What a Wave earned first place ahead of Daniel L Huss and Cade McCutcheon, both part of Team America, who took respectively the silver and bronze medals.

During this first week of competition, the winged-hourglass brand proudly presented medalists in each discipline with elegant Longines timepieces to celebrate their great win. Longines is now looking forward to timing the performances of Jumping, Driving, Para-Dressage and Vaulting’s riders and horses, who will be battling for second-week medals from September 18-23.
