Breguet recounts the story of the first wristwatch in Xi’an

After travelling throughout the biggest cities in China, where it has been greeted with enthusiasm, the exhibition « 1810-1812, Breguet makes the first wristwatch fit for a queen » moved to Xi’an, a cultural metropolis located in northwest China.

From November 4 to 22, 2013 this retrospective pays tribute to Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, and relates to the public the story of the creation of the first wristwatch.

In response to a commission from the Queen of Naples dated 8 June 1810, A.-L. Breguet starts creating a unique piece, the first wristwatch.

Completed on December 21, 1812, or two and a half years later, the Breguet No. 2639 is a timepiece of unprecedented elegance, quite unlike any other one. Featuring a gold guilloché case, this oblong-shaped repeating watch is held by a wristlet of twisted hair and gold thread.
