Baume & Mercier celebrates the new generation at the "Passione Engadina" rally

This fifth edition of the exceptional vintage car rally, Passione Engadina, has just taken place, from August 19th to 21st, in St. Moritz, Switzerland. This was the third time that Baume & Mercier joined the event, and this time as the principal sponsor. This rally is distinctive for its passion and heritage, since a number of the teams are father/son and father/daughter duos. The nine "juniors" participating in the event all received a model from the Classima collection, specially designed by Baume & Mercier for the up-and-coming young generation.

The fifth edition of the gentleman's rally of St. Moritz, Passione Engadina, focusing on Alfa Romeo, was held from August 19th to 21st. Only Italian collectors' cars manufactured before 1980 were admitted. The rally teams – of which many were father/son or father/daughter duos or otherwise members of the same family – set off in search of a unique driving experience. The bywords of this event were energy, team spirit, elegance, style, heritage, passion and tradition. Noble notions that matter just as much to Baume & Mercier. "As a traditional luxury company, these values are essential for us, too. For 186 years, we have been perpetuating our founders' convictions," explains Alain Zimmermann, CEO of Baume & Mercier. Loyal to its motto, "Life is about moments", the brand got involved in the event for the third time this year to offer the participants unforgettable experiences.

The winning teams in each of the five categories (cars manufactured before 1945; from 1946 to 1960; from 1961 to 1970; from 1971 to 1980; and sportscars) were given generous awards. Each driver received a Capeland Flyback Passione Engadina, while each co-driver was awarded an elegant Baume & Mercier desk clock.

As a supporter and avid follower of the young new generation, Baume & Mercier also wished to present each of the nine "juniors" of this rally with a gift as symbolic as it is appropriate: a Classima bearing the engraving "Passione Engadina" followed by the name of the participant.

A special edition of the Capeland reflecting the retro charm of the 1950s

In a tribute to this fifth encounter of historic cars, Baume & Mercier designed a limited- edition emblematic watch, the "Capeland Flyback Passione Engadina". "Capeland" is derived from the term "escape", symbolizing the pleasure of embarking on a voyage and the freedom to enjoy the time fully and intensely. Inspired by the vintage 1948 monopush-piece chronograph of the Baume & Mercier museum, the models stands out with its subtle, traditional look, of an elegance that emphasizes the retro charm of the composition. The historically- inspired design of this exceptional 44 mm watch features a domed matte white dial in a retro style, Arabic numerals, and elegant, blued steel Breguet hands with hollow moon tips, while the red hands of the chronograph add a sporting touch to the timepiece. The watch case in polished/satin-finished steel is also inspired by the aesthetic of the 1950s, and perfectly coordinates with the elegance, classic beauty and timeless allure of the Italian collectors' cars – both sports and luxury automobiles – presented at this exclusive event. The telemeter and tachymeter of this fully loaded watch enable it to measure not only distance but also speed.

In keeping with Baume & Mercier's renown as a watchmaker of extremely precise timepieces, this chronograph also features a self-winding mechanical movement made in Switzerland (La Joux-Perret 8147-2). The Flyback function makes it easy to time a rally. With unparalleled elegance, this timepiece is mounted on a black alligator strap lined with rubber-like red calfskin, finished with a pin buckle and engraved with the Passione Engadina logo. Each of these pieces meets with the brand's exacting standards, and collectors' car aficionados will undoubtedly feel driven to have a look!

To celebrate passion and heritage, the ten "juniors" participating in the event received a model from the Classima collection, specially designed by Baume & Mercier for the up-and-coming young generation.
