Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2023: The Finalists Are Announced!
For this year’s eagerly anticipated timepiece competition, the nominees are…
The watch world doesn’t really have its own version of the Academy Awards. However, that said, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is about as close as the watch industry comes to a peer-nominated awards program with the appropriate amount of gravitas.
For the 2023 edition, for which the awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Geneva, the list of finalists includes 84 watches and 6 clocks broken out into 15 categories. And while each prize category will have one declared winner, it is an incredible honor even to be nominated. Meanwhile, only one singular timepiece can win the coveted Aiguille d’Or trophy (a.k.a. GPHG’s version of a best-of-show prize). Last year, the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prize went to MB&F’s Legacy Machine Sequential Evo masterpiece.
In the weeks leading up to the official ceremony, the GPHG will taking the competing watches on a global tour so that watch enthusiasts can drool over these mechanical marvels in the metal.
Once again, Watchonista is proud to support the GPHG as a media partner; we are now in our 10 year as a partner with the over 20-year-old competition. Be sure to check our website and social media channels for all the latest news leading up to the big event.

The World Tour
The 84 watches shortlisted this year by our Academy will be exhibited in Macao on 25 and 26 September; then in Hong Kong from 28 September to 1 October as part of the new Timeless Watch Week; in Kuala Lumpur from 4 to 8 October in partnership with The Hour Glass; in New York from 18 to 22 October with Watches of Switzerland; and finally in Geneva from 25 October to 12 November at the Musée Rath, in partnership with the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (MAH). The latter will be presenting – alongside the 90 GPHG nominated timepieces – a foray into the origins of watchmaking through the "Hand & Tool" exhibition. Visitors will also be able to take part in guided tours, talks, games and introductory watchmaking workshops.
