Watch enthusiasts revel in the intricacies, and so does Watchonista. The devil is in the details, and that’s precisely why Watchonista wants to highlight some of the brilliant design elements usually overlooked by mainstream automotive publications (as we have done in Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3…aaand Part 4, Part 5, and Part 6 of this series).

These hidden gems, obsessed over by automotive designers and engineers worldwide, deserve recognition. We hope you enjoy the latest crop of our favorite design and engineering details – elements that we think capture and celebrate the artistry of automotive innovation.

The Kia Telluride Hybrid Ambient Lighting

Watch enthusiasts know that lume isn’t merely functional – it’s an emotional detail that transforms how a dial comes alive after dark. Kia embraces the same philosophy in the redesigned 2027 Telluride ($46,500), using ambient lighting as a design element rather than merely for illumination.

Subtle, indirect light traces the sweeping dashboard and door panels, adding a sophisticated glow that elevates the family-friendly three-row SUV after dark. Moreover, custom color palettes let drivers tailor the mood, while Drive Mode Syncing dynamically shifts the cabin’s illumination to complement your driving dynamics.

The Maybach x LeBron James

At this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Mercedes-Benz showcased its Future Classics Auction House display with a near-identical twin of LeBron James’ bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S 680.

Created through the elite MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program, the one-of-a-kind Maybach features deeply personal details, including custom light ivory paint, Akron-inspired engravings, and LeBron’s personal emblem in place of the traditional V12 badge.

Following its Pebble Beach debut, the car will be auctioned later this year, with all proceeds benefiting the LeBron James Family Foundation. Beyond the celebrity connection, the car serves as a striking showcase of what’s possible through MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure – where virtually every detail can be tailored to reflect the owner’s individual taste and story.

The McLaren 750S Carbon Fiber Seats

The $360,000 McLaren 750S is the thrilling successor to the phenomenal 720S – and McLaren made an already mouthwatering formula even more intoxicating. The company undertook an obsessive weight-reduction campaign, shedding 66 pounds through a variety of measures, including thinner windscreen glass, ultra-lightweight forged wheels, and these museum-worthy carbon-fiber racing seats, which alone save 38.6 pounds over the 720S seats.

Much like the material science found in high-end horology – from Rado’s original DiaStar (1962) made using a scratch-proof tungsten carbide composite, which paved the way for ceramic watchmaking, to Richard Mille’s ultra-lightweight Carbon TPT composite used in the RM 27-05, which weighs about as much as two sheets of paper – every gram matters.

The result is an even sharper, more focused supercar with performance capabilities that are nothing short of mind-blowing.

The Genesis GV60 Magma User Interface

The first high-performance EV from Genesis is the 641 horsepower GV60 Magma, a track-ready electric crossover starting at $69,950. And inside, the driver’s display gets a unique user interface inspired by the intricate beauty of a mechanical watch face, setting vibrant Magma Orange accents against the true-black backdrop of its OLED display.

The minimal interface dynamically shifts based on your driving mode, serving up critical performance telemetry, such as a real-time G-force meter and a countdown timer for the car’s temporary Boost Mode.

The Ford F-350 King Ranch Max Recline Seats

For the ultimate towing machine, look no further than Ford’s ultimate workhorse, the $80,000 Super Duty F-350 King Ranch. The super-luxe interior is Texas-themed and features these incredible business-class-like Max Recline Seats.

These amazing seats undergo a multi-stage physical transformation, in which the seatback drops nearly 180 degrees while the lower cushion automatically raises by 3.5 inches to cradle the spine. Using five patented kinematic linkage mechanisms, the seat effortlessly converts this 1,000 lb-ft torque monster into a private lounge for a nap on the go.
