Harnessing its 187-year history of design and jewelry excellence, Tiffany & Co. continues to expand its creative horizons with the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany watch collection. Drawing from the legacy of Jean Schlumberger, one of the House’s most celebrated designers, with an array of dazzling and contemporary timepieces that remain true to his vision while evolving it in new directions.
Recognized as a great tastemaker during his more than two decades at Tiffany & Co., Jean Schlumberger reinterpreted the natural world with wit and whimsy. His Bird on a Rock brooch, introduced in 1965, is one of Tiffany & Co.’s most emblematic creations. Over the years, it has been reinterpreted with a variety of differently colored gemstones. A symbol of joy and optimism, the diamond-encrusted bird now perches on the dial of the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Bird on a Rock watches. Invisibly attached to the outer ring of the dial, which spins freely with every gesture of the wrist, the signature bird recreates the sense of movement that is characteristic of Jean Schlumberger’s indelible creations. To create the bird, a jeweler must first sculpt the gold form by hand, then set it with diamonds and a pink sapphire for the eye in a process that spans over 24 hours.
Artisans utilize both modern-day innovations and the finest time-honored jewelry craftsmanship to bring each Bird on a Rock watch to life. To enable the outer ring to rotate freely, artisans developed an inventive ball-bearing mechanism. The rings are weighted with the utmost precision to sync the movements of the bird and fish with the movement of the wrist.
At the 2025 LVMH Watch Week, Tiffany & Co. will unveil two new interpretations of the Bird on a Rock watch.
