The Longines FEI European Championships: performance at its peak

The Longines FEI European Championships, of which the Swiss watch brand is the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper, came to an end today after the thrilling victory of Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and H&M All In in the Jumping Individual Final. The Swedish rider, who finished ahead of Harrie Smolders riding Don VHP Z and Cian O’Connor on Good Luck was presented with an elegant Longines timepiece from the Conquest collection, the Official Watch of the event, in presence of HM Queen Silvia. In total, over the seven days of competition, Longines was proud to reward no fewer than 33 athletes in all four equestrian disciplines, namely driving, dressage, para-dressage and jumping.

The 2017 edition of the Longines FEI European Championships was held from 21 to 27 August in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden and comprised events at the Ullevi Stadium, Heden Arena and Slottsskogen City Park. For the first time, the Swiss watchmaker was the Title Partner, the Official Timekeeper and the Official Watch of these seven exciting and eventful days of competition, which gathered over 300 of Europe’s top equestrian riders and drivers. As such, Longines was delighted to present timepieces to the medalists of each discipline, namely Jumping, Dressage, Driving and Para-Equestrian Dressage.

In the Jumping Individual Final, which rounded off today the Longines FEI European Championships, Peder Fredricson riding H&M All In emerged winner, in front of Harrie Smolders on Don VHP Z and Cian O’Connor on Good Luck. In the team competition held on Friday August 25, Irish representatives, Shane Sweetnam, Bertram Allen, Denis Lynch and Clan O’Connor claimed the European title.

The discipline of driving, one of the most spectacular and adrenaline-fuelled equestrian sports, comprised three days of competition: Dressage, Marathon and Cones. Following the last trial, Dutch luck strikes again not only winning Driving Team Competition but also Individual Competition, which was won by rider Ijsbrand Chardon. All winners were rewarded with a Longines timepiece.

Finally, in Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage, individual athletes and two national teams were presented with elegant Longines watches from the hands of Longines representatives in recognition of their outstanding sports achievements in a discipline which is the ultimate expression of elegance.

Earlier today, Longines, together with the FEI, proudly announced that the Swiss watch brand has become the Title Partner of the newly-named Longines Nations CupTM Jumping  series. As the FEI’s Top Partner since 2013, Longines has also extended its global partnership with this prestigious institution. Under this agreement, Longines remains the Title Partner of the Longines FEI World CupTM Jumping Western European League as well as of the Longines FEI World CupTM Jumping Final. The winged hourglass brand’s role as Official Timekeeper and Watch of the FEI and Official Timekeeper of the FEI World Equestrian Games™is also maintained.

During the Longines FEI European Championships, Longines was proud to highlight a model from the Conquest collection as the Official Watch of the event. With a diameter of 41mm, this chronograph in steel features a black dial and enables to time to a hundredth of a second.
