SIHH 2016: An Epic Journey Across The Atlantic: Montblanc Celebrates The Pioneering Spirit Since 1906

During the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, Montblanc celebrated its 110th anniversary and the pioneering spirit that has guided the company since 1906 with a VIP cocktail party and dinner at the Hotel des Eaux-Vives.

The elegant space overlooking Lac Leman and the Swiss Jura was transformed for one night only into the sumptuous universe of ocean liners, reminiscent of the Atlantic crossings that inspired Montblanc’s founders, and now the theme of the new collection of Montblanc 4810 timepieces.

Brand ambassadors Hugh Jackman, Charlotte Casiraghi, Guey Lun Mei and Montblanc CEO Jérôme Lambert were joined by friends of the brand including actor and director Pierre Niney, design icon Marc Newson, actress Macarena Gomez and director and singer Aldo Comas. During the cocktails, guests were entertained by a musical trio performing pieces that would have been heard aboard the great ocean liners. Surrounded by glowing lanterns, elegant Art Nouveau and Art Deco furnishings as well as models of great ships, guests were immersed in the glamour and wonder of the great crossings, enjoying a dinner menu evoking the lavish dishes that were once served aboard the magnificent ships that voyaged between Europe and America.

Against this backdrop, Montblanc introduced new timepieces from the 4810 Collection inspired by this innovative golden age for travel, and designed to meet the modern traveler’s desire for high performance timekeeping through watchmaking excellence. A live artisan watchmaking performance gave guests an opportunity to discover the Maison’s passion for tradition as well as its quest to create innovative and meaningful products. Among the pieces presented, the Montblanc 4810 Orbis Terrarum Pocket Watch 110 Years Edition is Montblanc’s first pocket watch and features a world timer function, perfect for travel across the Atlantic. The Montblanc 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim showcases a new in-house movement combining the Maison’s patented ExoTourbillon complication with the addition of a quick stop-second function, while the Montblanc 4810 TwinFly Chronograph 110 Years Edition with its flyback chronograph and dual time function makes a fine functional companion for the modern traveler. The central masterpiece on display, the Montblanc Collection Villeret Tourbillon Cylindrique Pocket Watch 110 Years Edition, a masterpiece of fine craftsmanship from the Villeret collection limited to 8 pieces, features some of horology’s most innovative complications, including a tourbillon with cylindrical hairspring, a triple time zone indication, and a world time function with both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

For the evening, special guest Charlotte Casiraghi dazzled in a Montblanc Bohème Perpetual Calendar and Guey Lun Mai stylishly wore a Bohème Day & Night watch. Hugh Jackman chose the new TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph, one of the new pieces unveiled at SIHH. As if transported from one side of the Atlantic to the other aboard an elegant ocean liner, guests experienced a piece of the wonder that led Montblanc’s founders to embark on a journey that continues 110 years on.
