Longines receives the visit of ski champion and Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin at its headquarters in Saint-Imier

Just over one month after the end of the FIS Alpine World Cup season, following which she claimed her second Overall Crystal Globe, alpine ski champion and Longines Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin paid a visit to the brand's headquarters in Saint-Imier for the first time.

The American, who joined the Longines family in 2014, was thus able to explore the production workshops and the brand's museum alongside Longines' President, Walter von Känel and Vice President and Head of International Marketing Juan-Carlos Capelli. During her visit, Mikaela Shiffrin also had the opportunity to personalize a piece from the Conquest collection that will be produced as a limited edition and unveiled at the first stage of the 2018/2019 FIS Alpine World Cup stage in Sölden.

The career of American Mikaela Shiffrin has been marked by superlatives. Although only 23 years old, she has already won all major alpine ski titles – as well as three Longines Rising Ski Star Prizes – and was awarded her second Crystal Globe on March 18 during the FIS World Cup Finals in Åre, Sweden. Just one month after Mikaela’s new outstanding achievement, the Swiss watch brand Longines invited her to visit the brand’s headquarters in Saint-Imier. For the US ski champion, a member of the Longines family since 2014, this was an opportunity to explore the production workshops, the brand’s museum, and, more generally, to witness first-hand the awe-inspiring watchmaking expertise which has characterized the winged hourglass brand for the last 185 years.

Before meeting with the employees and the many young skiers from the Ski Club Saint-Imier and Ski-Club Chasseral Dombresson-Villiers who came to greet the talented athlete, Mikaela Shiffrin was entrusted with the exciting task of personalizing a model from the Conquest collection, which will subsequently be produced as a limited edition and unveiled in the beginning of the 2018/2019 alpine skiing season.

Delighted at having had the opportunity to express her interpretation of the brand's motto “Elegance is an Attitude”, the American champion said, “I am very honored to have been invited to Longines to learn about its rich history, its expertise, and the complex process of producing a watch. I will never look at my watches the same way again! Having the opportunity to personalize a Longines watch and express my vision of elegance is an unforgettable experience. I hope that my fans will see some aspects of my personality in this watch, my athletic and dynamic side coupled with my own special feminine touch. I would like to thank my partner Longines once again for its invaluable support, and I look forward to discovering this unprecedented piece in a few months!”

The Swiss watch brand is looking forward to this new collaboration with the American skier. As elegant in life as she is on skis, Mikaela Shiffrin is a true inspiration for all young athletes of her generation. Her values of fair play and integrity, along with the devotion she displays, make her a perfect Ambassador of Elegance for Longines, active in alpine skiing since 1924.
