JEANRICHARD partners with artist Gully and reveals the “Graphiscope” collection

The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer JEANRICHARD will be partnering with Gully, known for his contemporary street art, for a special collaboration. The exhibition on the theme of “Philosophy of Art” will start on 19 September 2014 at Opera Gallery in Paris, France. It will feature amongst Gully’s latest paintings also a special exhibit on the collaboration with JEANRICHARD that is part of the renowned Kering Group. On this occasion, a “Graphiscope” special collection, composed of three limited series of JEANRICHARD Terrascope timepieces, inspired and signed by the artist, will be unveiled.

Gully, a French art lover and graffiti artist, creates contemporary art that has a special twist. Inspired by art masters and legends, such as Canaletto, Hopper, Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, Rockwell or Os Gemeos, he remodels and incorporates parts of their art into his paintings. Considered as a tribute, Gully makes the icons meet in his paintings and creates a dazzling blend and synergy of various styles in his pieces of art. His work is considered rare, as he produces very little. And so is he, a mysterious artist, never appearing at the openings since he remains anonymous.

“Just like Daniel Jeanrichard, pioneer and artist of his time in the 17th century, Gully is also a very inventive and curious adventurer within his field of expertise. And the story behind the Graphiscope collection is the result of exactly such inspiration”, said Bruno Grande, Managing Director of JEANRICHARD. “Gully has been a Friend of the Brand for a while and when he was working on painting a new canvas, he splashed his Terrascope with several colors - and this is how an additional piece of art emerged and the idea for the new ‘Graphiscope’ limited edition series was born.”

The JEANRICHARD “Graphiscope” collection will be three limited editions of 25 pieces each of a variation of the JEANRICHARD Terrascope watch that are signed by Gully. They will be revealed at Opera Gallery in Paris on 19 September 2014 and the exhibition will last until 11 October 2014. Founded by Gilles Dyan, in 1994, Opera Gallery Group, which includes eleven galleries throughout the world (in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East), is celebrating this year its 20th anniversary.

“For my creations, I normally pay tribute to the emblems of the Art Scene – especially the ones I consider to be my mentors, and I make them meet each other in my pieces of art”, said Gully. “For JEANRICHARD, time is a Philosophy of Life and I make my art, my Philosophy of Life. Thus, together we created an encounter, a true blend of street art and time. We united the art of watchmaking with urban street art, two universes very different from one another yet at the same time very special and out of the ordinary.”

During the “Philosophy of Art” exhibition, the artist, partnering with JEANRICHARD, will also organise a treasure hunt on Saturday, 20 September 2014 in the streets of Paris. Participants will be able to search for a JEANRICHARD “Graphiscope” timepiece, as well as a canvas created by Gully. The contestants can register on the website www.gullyartist.com, www.jeanrichard.com or www.operagallery.com, as of 10 September 2014.

ABOUT GULLY

Gully, who was born in 1977, belongs to the Street Art movement. He freely describes himself as both an aerosol enthusiast and an art lover in general. His concept emerges from the Appropriationism movement, a contemporary form of artistic expression associated with the Conceptual Art of the 1970s and 1980s, whose leading figures were Richard Pettibone and Mike Bidlo. During his intellectual approach and artistic creations, Gully takes inspiration from certain icons of the art scene – especially the ones he considers to be his mentors – and creates special encounters between them in his pieces. These old masters of painting include legends such as Canaletto, and figures of modern and contemporary art like Fernand Léger, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and many more (see Doahnos meets Léger 1, Rockwell meets Lichtenstein and Warhol 1). Just like Lichtenstein borrowed the comic strip, and Warhol the icons of advertising, Gully appropriates to his creations, the icons of art and adds a touch of playful language to the final pieces. With a great deal of subtlety, Gully looks up to his peers and pays tribute to them, like a child would look up, wide-eyed open, to the grown-ups.
