Jaeger-LeCoultre inaugurates the ‘sound lab’ at SalonQP

For the sixth consecutive year Jaeger-LeCoultre brings the essence of the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux to the contemporary setting of the Saatchi Gallery, London (November 6th- 8th 2014).

Jaeger-LeCoultre has made the minute repeater one of its focuses throughout SalonQP, exploring the different facets of this sophisticated complication. The Manufacture has created and produced over 200 different calibres equipped with repeater mechanisms, making the field of sound an expertise.

Discover Jaeger-LeCoultre Minute Repeater watches

At SalonQP, Jaeger-LeCoultre will present their last creation the Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater, the first minute repeater watch in a feminine Jaeger-LeCoultre collection. Equipped with a silent regulator to reduce any peripheral sound disturbance of the mechanism, the Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater watch is fitted with two patented trebuchet hammers which strike two crystal gongs connected to the sapphire crystal harder and just once, producing a loudspeaker effect. The Minute Repeater is operated by a single pushbutton replacing the traditional repeater slide system and equipped with a security system which ensures that even if the pushbutton is pressed again while the minute repeater is already in action, the mechanism does not start working again – thereby preventing any damage to the movement.

On the white gold dial – designed with a sunburst guilloché motif – the master enameller delicately uses a brush to apply pigments in the form of metal oxides. Several firings in an oven at extreme temperatures are required in order to reveal the delicate blue that perfectly reproduces the night sky above the Vallée de Joux, bathed in moonlight. The master gem setter adorns the ivy leaves with a snow setting – a technique invented by the Grande Maison. Different size diamonds are placed one after another, side by side, completely covering the gold surface. Thus huddled together next to each other as if under a freezing north wind, the gems stud the delicate plant motif with their luminous imprint. Two rows of diamonds on the bezel and pushpiece echo this precious jewellery craftsmanship.

Through a collection of new and vintage timepieces Jaeger-LeCoultre reveals the varying melodies, unfailing reliability, precision and the purest possible sound from some of its most iconic minute repeaters. These include one of the first repeater pocket watches from 1895, the Grande Complication pocket watch, housing not only a minute repeater function but chronograph and perpetual calendar; the Master Ultra Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon watch, the eleventh creation of the Hybris Mechanica collection and the Reverso Répétition Minutes à Rideau, an innovative concept watch where a sliding curtain masks one of the Reverso faces and activates the minute repeater.

Jaeger-LeCoultre ‘sound lab’

Watch aficionados will be offered the unique opportunity to participate in a private ‘sound lab’ with Jaeger-LeCoultre. This experience offers customers a unique insight into skills involved in assembling a minute repeater; educating those interested in the different styles of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches; highlighting the sound quality produced by different alloys; and exploring the newest techniques in minute repeaters from trebuchet hammers and crystal gongs to the silent time lapse reduction systems; three patented inventions from the Manufacture.
