Swiss Museum of Military Aviation Inaugurates a “Breguet Area” in Payerne

The Military Aviation Museum in Payerne “Clin d’Ailes” inaugurated an additional hall on Friday, May 1st dedicated to the maintenance and preparation of aircrafts.

Undertaken in 2014 with the help of Breguet, this museum extension enabled the creation of a “Breguet Area,” featuring the history of the brand in relation to aviation.

The name Breguet is associated with aeronautics thanks to Louis Breguet (1880-1995), one of the pioneers of world aviation. A watch enthusiast, the aircraft manufacturer ordered many timekeeping instruments from the House of Breguet, founded by his grandfather, to be featured on the dashboard of his planes.

In 1952, he acquired one of the earliest steel chronographs with the special “retour en vol” or instant restart function that would later become the Type XX model.

Inspired by the fifties’ legendary chronograph, contemporary watches from the modern day collections of Type XX, XXI and XXII are exhibited in the showcases of the special “Breguet Area”, along with an original dashboard chronograph. In addition, Type XXII wall clocks have been placed at various exclusive locations throughout the museum.
