Up In The Air: Feeling Good With Bulgari’s Bvlgari Aluminium Tricolore

This limited-edition collaboration with the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, the Frecce Tricolori, is also raising funds for children’s hospitals.

In many ways, Bulgari has more than proven its leadership this year. The luxury jewelry and watchmakers were one of the first major companies to pivot to making hand sanitizers during the early days of the pandemic through its fragrance division.

Bulgari was also one of the first big brands to leave Baselworld and, as part of LMVH Watch Week in Dubai, participated in the last big in-person timepiece fair for months.

Then at Geneva Watch Days, the storied Roman brand once again broke records with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton, the thinnest tourbillon chronograph ever.

Finally, the Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph took the Iconic Watch Prize at the 2020 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

So, it feels fitting that Bulgari is putting a cap on 2020 with the Bvlgari Aluminium Tricolore.

Big Sky, Big Heart

The relaunch of the Aluminium series at Geneva Watch Week 2020 was an inspired move.

Originally debuting in 1998, the Bvlgari Aluminium was designed to be an affordable, lightweight sports watch. Today, it fills a similar space in the market as an innovative, hardworking, and accessible timepiece for enthusiasts. It doesn’t hurt that it has a distinctly Italian design that, despite its super-light construction, gives off a lot of wrist presence.

Clad in dark blue rubber, instead of black, the new Bvlgari Aluminium Tricolore –is housed in a 40mm aluminum case with an engraved titanium caseback. The dial is a rich gray and is signed “TRICOLORE” with the red, white, and green of the Frecce Tricolori logo.

Inside is the B77 automatic calibre showing the hours, minutes, seconds, and the date. To further add to the comfort of this featherweight watch, the bracelet is made of a combination of blue rubber with aluminum links and an aluminum pin buckle.

Good Work

Not only is the Bvlgari Aluminium a gift to the watch collecting community, but this new limited-edition partnership with the Aeronautica Militare (the Italian Air Force) and the Frecce Tricolori is also part of a charity initiative.

Revenue from the sale of the first 50 watches will be donated, in its entirety, to support three pediatric hospitals in Italy through the Aeronautica Militare’s fundraising project, “Un Dono dal Cielo,” or “A Gift from Heaven.”

Bulgari has long championed health initiatives, but this year, the brand’s actions have taken on even greater importance. “Bvlgari has received a lot from Italy, and it’s only fair that Bvlgari should give back to Italy,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the Bulgari Group, in a press release.

Sky’s the Limit

The partnership with the Aeronautica Militare and Frecce Tricolori is deeper than just a logo on a dial. In Italy, the Aeronautica Militare continues to play a big part in the country’s COVID-19 emergency response. For example, they are instrumental in moving medical personnel and medical equipment throughout the country.

On top of the 50 numbered pieces, a second 1,000-piece non-numbered series will be available internationally starting in December 2020. The Bvlgari Aluminium Tricolore comes in a dedicated aluminum and rubber presentation box and retails for a very reasonable EUR 3,050.
