Geneva Watch Days: Another World Record For Bulgari With Its Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton
Bulgari is back at it with its thinnest ever tourbillon chronograph.

Since the collection launched in 2014, Bulgari's Octo has captured many a watch collectors’ hearts and wrists. Inspired by the now-iconic creations of Gérald Genta, the Octo collection has cemented Bulgari's place in the record books. With not one, but now six world record achievements under their belts, Bulgari is on a mission to prove their watchmaking prowess.
The last time we talked world records was at Baselworld 2019 when Bulgari unleashed the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT: a 3.30mm thick chronograph GMT encased in titanium with the international jet-set in mind (HERE). The Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT would reward Bulgari with its fifth world record and become the talk of Basel.
Flash forward to today, 2020 has seen its fair share of announcements from the legendary brand from Rome. From its early January debuts at LVMH Watch Week (HERE, HERE) to its outright departure from Baselworld (HERE). With CEO Jean-Christophe Babin at the helm, Bulgari is always pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a modern watchmaker.
Introducing The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton
For Geneva Watch Days, Bulgari remastered a classic with the Bvlgari Aluminum (HERE) and introduced a decidedly modern innovation with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton.
“2020 is the year of the World records at Bvlgari with this new ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic. It is the 6th World record in a row for Octo Finissimo. We already launched last January in Dubai Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon, the smallest ladies watch Tourbillon on the market which complements Diva Finissima Minute Repeater, the thinnest chiming ladies watch available on the market. Complication and records are without genders at Bvlgari!” said Jean-Christophe Babin, Bulgari’s CEO in a press release.
The new Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is the world’s thinnest automatic winding tourbillon chronograph. At just 7.40mm thick, this new creation from the maison continues Bulgari’s quest to become ‘The Roman Jeweller of Time.’
The latest introduction in Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo collection features an ultra-thin skeletonized movement wound by a peripheral rotor. Bulgari’s BVL 388 calibre is just 3.50mm thick, beats at 21,600 VpH, and boasts a power reserve of 52 hours. While the entire execution is skeletonized, both on the dial and movement sides, Bulgari has placed two sandblasted grey sub-dials indicating the seconds at 9 o’clock and chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock.
Measuring at 42mm, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton still maintains its predecessors' diminutive wrist presence while bringing serious horological complications to even the most astute collectors. Encased in sandblasted grade 5 titanium, this watch is a stunner at any angle.
Pricing and Availability
Limited to 50 pieces, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is priced at $142,000 and available via Bulgari retailers and the brand’s e-commerce site.
This piece is undoubtedly one of my favorites from Geneva Watch days and I can't wait to experience it in the metal.
