A. Lange & Söhne presents the one-of-a-kind LANGE 1 TIME ZONE to the winner of this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este
The prize ranks among the most coveted trophies of the eminent competition in the domain of classic automobiles. On Sunday, 26 May 2013, the US-American fashion designer Ralph Lauren received the jury's "Best of Show" prize in Como. Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid handed over to him a special model of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE crafted exclusively for this event for his Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé with a coachwork from Jean Bugatti built in 1938.
The watch was presented to the winner within the scope of a gala dinner at Villa d'Este, the venue of the Concorso d'Eleganza, which is deemed to be one of the most exclusive events dedicated to historic automobiles and concept cars. In his laudatory speech, Wilhelm Schmid commended the event for the contemporary aura with which it expresses the human quest for eternal beauty. As a sculpture for the wrist, he added, the Lange 1 Time Zone is a fitting prize for the most beautiful sculpture on wheels. Because it indicates two time zones, the watch also stands for the art of travelling in style. The caseback of the white-gold watch displays the hand-engraved coat of arms of the Concorso d'Eleganza. On the rotatable city ring, Como represents Central European Time – as homage to the venue.
This is the second year for A. Lange & Söhne as a sponsor of the "Festival of Beauty" which has taken place on the shoreline of Lake Como since 1929. The Saxon watchmaking company has gained many friends in the realm of historic automobiles. For Lange, the event has proven to be a perfect match alongside its other cultural commitments. On a friendly spring weekend, numerous VIP guests and visitors expressed their enthusiasm for technology, style, and elegance.
