TAG Heuer Brings Japanese Racing Heritage to the Carrera with the New Team Ikuzawa Limited Edition

At the heart of the project lies the Team Ikuzawa Roadmaster stopwatch, an object that became synonymous with the team’s racing activities throughout the 1970s and 1980s. More than a simple timing instrument, it represented the visual identity of Team Ikuzawa during one of the most exciting periods in Japanese motorsport, where precision, legibility and bold graphic design were as important in the pit lane as they were on the track.

For this second collaboration, Mai Ikuzawa and George Bamford immersed themselves in the team’s archives, carefully studying the original stopwatch’s proportions, typography and color palette before translating its visual language into a contemporary Carrera Chronograph that feels both authentic and fresh.
 

The result captures the romance of analog racing while expressing the vision of today’s Team Ikuzawa, blending historical references with contemporary watchmaking in a way that resonates equally with motorsport enthusiasts and collectors.

The watch is built around the current 39mm TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox, a model already celebrated for its elegant proportions and uninterrupted sapphire crystal that flows seamlessly into the case. Its clean architecture provides the ideal canvas for Team Ikuzawa’s distinctive visual identity, allowing the collaboration’s unique details to take center stage without compromising the timeless character that has defined the Carrera collection for decades.
 

The white Clou de Paris-textured dial immediately evokes the team’s historic racing colors while adding a sense of depth and refinement. Meanwhile, printed black indices replace traditional applied markers, reinforcing the appearance of vintage stopwatches and motorsport instruments.

Throughout the dial, vivid red accents inject energy into the design, appearing on the lacquered hour and minute hands, the central chronograph seconds hand, and even the angled date display, where every numeral adopts Team Ikuzawa’s signature shade.
 

One of the watch’s defining features sits at six o’clock, where the Team Ikuzawa signature replaces the traditional running seconds display. This unusual layout pays tribute to historic TAG Heuer chronographs, which often reserved valuable dial space for racing teams, sponsors, and competition partners. Beyond the dial itself, thoughtful details continue the narrative, from the black flange with its crisp white minute track to the polished crown framed by a red lacquered ring.
 

The seven-row stainless-steel bracelet is complemented by two additional straps, a perforated white leather version inspired by classic racing gloves and a white textile strap accented with red stripes that reference Team Ikuzawa’s historic livery, allowing the watch to adopt different personalities while remaining faithful to its motorsport roots.

The collaborative spirit extends well beyond the dial. Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire caseback engraved with dedicated Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department signatures alongside the individual numbering of each piece, reinforcing the exclusivity of a production limited to just 150 examples worldwide. These subtle engravings serve as lasting reminders that this is more than a standard limited edition; it is the product of three creative forces brought together by a shared appreciation for racing culture and thoughtful design.
 

Presentation has received an equally meticulous level of attention. Rather than a conventional watch box, each Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is delivered inside bespoke packaging inspired by the toolboxes found in professional racing workshops and pit garages.
 

The set includes both additional straps, a travel pouch and a collection of custom Team Ikuzawa charms designed for keys and personal accessories, creating an ownership experience that extends naturally beyond the watch itself and further strengthens the connection to the world of motorsport.

Powering the Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is TAG Heuer’s manufacture Caliber TH20-10, an automatic chronograph movement developed specifically for the latest generation of Carrera models. So, while the collaboration is driven by heritage and design, the movement ensures the watch remains firmly rooted in contemporary Swiss watchmaking, thanks to its proven reliability.

By eliminating the traditional running seconds display, the TH20-10 provides greater freedom in dial design while allowing the Team Ikuzawa signature to occupy a place of honor at six o’clock. The configuration also echoes vintage racing chronographs from the 1960s and 1970s, when valuable dial space was often dedicated to teams and sponsors, reinforcing the historical inspiration behind the project.
 

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement complements the watch’s motorsport character with modern engineering, ensuring that beneath its nostalgic appearance lies a thoroughly contemporary mechanical heart.
