G-SHOCK x Crocs

Clog Life: The G-SHOCK x Crocs Collab That You Didn’t Know You Needed

The ugly shoe and the rugged watch make for surprisingly likable bedfellows.

For true timepiece addicts, there are not enough ways to wear a watch.

Rihanna wore a customized piece from Jacob & Co. as an anklet. Piaget produces outstanding pendant watches; Casio offers fun digital rings. And in the olden days, brands like Cartier set tiny calibers into cigarette lighters. This brings us to the new Crocs x G-SHOCK collaboration.

How dare we bring up Crocs in the same paragraph as Cartier? Because it’s an interesting, if unexpected, collaboration, that’s why!

School of Croc

For the record, I am a fan of Crocs. Introduced in 2002, I bought my first pair soon after. However, my buttery yellow slip-on shoes were immediately lambasted as ugly by my friends and family.

And let’s not forget how Time Magazine called them one of the worst inventions of all time. Still, I didn’t care. I bought more.

I have especially fond memories of red clogs I bought in Basel during Baselworld after my feet became inflamed from a hard day of walking around the convention hall. And the bright red plastic shoe also helped alleviate my homesickness.

I am also a fan of G-SHOCK for many of the same reasons. The design is not the sort of “pretty” usually seen in the watch world, but it is “jolie-laide,” or unconventionally attractive.

So, if you like colorful plastic things, then this is the shoe/watch collaboration you’ve been waiting for. And if you still think this is a terrible idea, then guess what? Not everything is for you.

Fun Fact: In March, Crocs reported a record annual revenue of $4.1 billion for 2024, up 4% from the year prior. The company’s rising numbers are partly due to its resurging popularity among younger consumers (so the haters can take a seat, imo).

In a first for the Echo Wave collection, the recent G-SHOCK x Crocs drop gives the footwear manufacturer’s futuristic-looking clog a glow-in-the-dark finish, appropriate for all the lume aficionados out there.

But that’s not all. The shoe comes with a GA2100 (a.k.a. the CasiOak) in a modular case (a first for G-SHOCK) that snaps onto the strap as easily as one of its jibbitz (shoe charms that pop into one of the holes that make up part of the Crocs signature design).

Vive La difference

This mash-up is even more interesting because it represents new designs for both G-SHOCK and Crocs.

The edgy, sculpted silhouette of the Echo Wave is still quite new to the Crocs catalog. Plus, this exclusive design is enhanced by a custom marbled ankle strap inspired by G-SHOCK’s iconic resin straps.

The quick-release strap of the G-SHOCK and the engraved caseback both mimic the pastel marble pattern of Crocs Echo Wave’s lining and strap. Meanwhile, the dial also features the Croc’s logo. And like the shoe, the case glows in the dark.

True to G-SHOCK’s DNA, this shock-resistant watch has all the super tough specs brand devotees hold dear, including 200m water resistance, a hand shift feature, world-time (48 cities), a 1/100- second stopwatch, a countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, and a double LED light (Super Illuminator) for those evenings when you find yourself dancing your Crocs off.
