Biennale des Antiquaires 2012
Biennale des Antiquaires 2012
On the occasion of its fourth participation in the “Biennale des Antiquaires”, CHANEL will present more than a hundred High Jewelry pieces, in a new exhibition space designed by the American architect, Peter Marino.
Among these jewellery pieces, CHANEL will highlight the “1932” collection, which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the “Bijoux de Diamants”, the first and only High Jewelry collection created by Gabrielle Chanel, in 1932.
This anniversary collection draws its inspiration from the symbols that coloured Gabrielle Chanel’s imagination. A magical constellation of white, yellow and black diamonds, pink and blue sapphires and pearls, exalts the beauty of the emblematic designs of CHANEL FINE JEWELRY: comets and stars, the sun, fringes, ribbons and feathers…
Two outstanding elements of CHANEL High Jewelry, the comet and star, provide the creative inspiration for never-before-seen pieces. A new interpretation of the Comet necklace, “Etoile Filante”, expresses all the creative freedom that characterized the pieces of 1932.
For the very first time in its history, CHANEL offers a head jewel, highlighted with diamond starsband softened with fine baguette-diamond chains that flow over the hair.
The Lion is CHANEL FINE JEWELRY’s new icon and the latest addition to its style vocabulary.
Mademoiselle Chanel, who was born under the sign of Leo, on August 19th 1883, loved to reproduce this majestic figure on the buttons of her garments, and possessed numerous art objects in the form of this “king of all animals” and emblem of Venice, which was one of her favourite cities.
Brilliantly interpreted, this new symbol appears on a sumptuous sautoir necklace, where the lion is sculpted in rutile quartz and proudly highlights a diamond comet and an exceptional 32-carat yellow diamond.
This same proud lion and comet are also found in the design of a spectacular brooch, in yellow and white diamonds.
Visitors to the Biennale des Antiquaires will discover fifteen totally new pieces that are poetic variations on coloured diamonds.
Also, CHANEL will present new jewellery watches from the “Mademoiselle Privé” collection, dedicated to the “métiers d’arts” and their techniques. Inspired by the Lion, Comet and
Feather designs, these very original pieces combine the most refined techniques of engraving, “grands feux” enameling and stone setting. Here, the exceptional talents of High Jewelry and
Fine Watchmaking combine to express all the creativity and audacity of CHANEL.
Through these pieces, CHANEL FINE JEWELRY clearly displays its unique, creative spirit. The excellence and complete mastery of techniques that each High Jewellery piece reveals, enables CHANEL to further advance it taste for perfection.
