Italy’s Alexandra Agiurgiuculese presented with the Longines Prize for Elegance at the 35th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2017 in Pesaro
The Swiss watch brand Longines, Official Partner and Timekeeper of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), was delighted to present tonight its Longines Prize for Elegance to Italy’s Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, who distinguished herself for the outstanding grace and charisma she displayed throughout the all-around final. This international event was the occasion for the brand to highlight its Longines DolceVita Collection, a line inspired by the Italian sweet life which illustrates the brand’s contemporary elegance worldwide.
As the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the 35th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2017 in Pesaro, Longines was proud to present the Longines Prize for Elegance to Italy’s Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, for which all participants in the individual all-around finals held on Friday September 1st were nominated. In Pesaro, the jury of the Longines Prize for Elegance comprised Morinari Watanabe, FIG President, Alina Kabaeva, former gymnast and FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Ambassador, Manuel Martelli, Account Manager Longines Italy and Benjamin Aeby, Longines International Sponsorship & Events Manager. The jury’s individual assessments were combined to form a collective judgment reflecting a perceptive and balanced evaluation of the gymnasts’ performances. Alexandra Agiurgiuculese impressed the whole jury in displaying perfect coordination and intangible grace, beauty and harmony known as “elegance”, a value which Longines cherishes.
Set up in 1997, the Longines Prize for Elegance takes the form of a trophy representing a gymnast in movement created especially for Longines by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Gerber. In addition, the winner received an elegant Longines timepiece and a cheque. Besides, the Official Watch of the 35th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships was a lady model of the Longines DolceVita Collection, cased in steel, decorated with diamonds and featuring a silver-coloured “flinqué” dial adorned with painted Roman numerals. This timepiece represents contemporary elegance of the Longines watchmaking brand worldwide. It perfectly illustrated the elegance of this world class competition.
Longines first became involved in gymnastics in 1912, when it launched an innovative electro-mechanical timing system. For over twenty years the brand has been the official partner and timekeeper for artistic and rhythmic gymnastics competitions organized by the International Gymnastics Federation. At these events, Longines provides the necessary infrastructure and personnel for calculating times, presenting scores, processing data (start lists, results, and medals) and displaying it on the results screens, on the commentators’ information system as well as transmitting it to the television companies that are covering the competitions.
