Van Cleef Pont Des Amoureux

Valentine's day: Van Cleef Arpels Pont des Amoureux

Celebrating lovers ... great idea, only today we do have the distinct impression of being manipulated by commercial interests. On the other hand, it's nice to make a gift.

So, for th at special person my heart chosen, I would love to offer a very poetic piece produced by the combined gifts of Van Cleef & Arpels and Jean-Marc Wiederrecht.  I am talking about the "Pont des Amoureux," of course.  Its retrograde movement lets the two lovers portrayed on the watch face meet at midday and midnight on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris. This romantic encounter symbolizes one of the happiest moments in life: those filled with love. The watch portrays two lovers on a grisaille enamel backdrop, whose romantic walk marks the passage of time until the hour of their long-desired meeting. The two individuals, driven by a retrograde movement, move towards each other and meet at midday and midnight for a kiss, cherishing their love for one another forever. The diameter is 38 millimeters. It is driven by an automatic Swiss movement, a modified Jaeger LeCoultre 846 equipped with a module developed exclusively for Van Cleef & Arpels.

And if, under the charm of my gentle gift, my sweet friend would want to place a magnificent timepiece onto my wrist, I would ask her for a Longines quadruple retrograde with moon phase. I feel it is one of the great watchmaking pieces and on top of it, it's available for people with medium budgets. Here are some of its features: a round, steel case, sapphire crystal and a transparent case back allowing a glimpse at its engine from the back. This watch is equipped with a L707 caliber, a mechanical movement with automatic winding beating at 28,800 vph, and a guaranteed power reserve of 48 hours. It has four retrograde functions and a moon phase.  This beautiful mechanism features hours, minutes with retrograde days at 12 o'clock, date on the right side of the dial, a small seconds at 6 o'clock, and a second 24-hour second time zone on the left side of the dial. The moon phase is also located at 6 o'clock, and there is a day-night indicator at 12 o'clock, in short: sheer joy!
