SIHH 2019: A. Lange & Söhne Introduces The LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary” Edition
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of A. Lange & Söhne’s iconic Lange 1, the brand releases a special jubilee edition of their eponymous timepiece.
In 1994, US President Bill Clinton stood at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and loudly proclaimed "Berlin is free!" Ace Of Base had the number one song, and Forrest Gump was captivating viewers across the world. Meanwhile, in Dresden, Germany, Walter Lange, and Günter Blümlein were introducing the first (of the new generation) A. Lange & Söhne creations.
Four timepieces were presented on October 24th, 1994. The pieces were critically acclaimed for their fresh minimalism and stunning craftsmanship. The crown jewel of that day was the LANGE 1 with its forward-thinking oversized date and asymmetric dial.
For the past 25 years, A. Lange & Söhne has been producing the LANGE 1 in a wide variety of versions. The design aesthetics have remained uncompromised, and through nearly three decades, the LANGE 1 remains as fresh as ever.
LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary”
Just before the 2019 edition of SIHH, A. Lange & Söhne has taken the opportunity to celebrate the LANGE 1. Before we enter the craziness that is SIHH, it's a smart move on A. Lange & Söhne's part to introduce novelties ahead of the pack. The brand is shining a light on the LANGE 1 and letting this special 25th Anniversary edition shine before the newsfeeds are full of new releases.
The new LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary” is a 38.5mm white gold timepiece that pays tribute to one of A. Lange & Söhne’s most popular models. This edition features a beautiful silver argenté dial printed with deep blue markers, complete with sub seconds, and a power reserve indicator. The blued hands perfectly match the blue motifs of the LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary.”
Powered by the manually wound A. Lange & Söhne calibre L121.1, the watch's movement is of course beautifully finished to Lange standards. The notable balance bridge made of German silver is hand engraved, providing uniqueness to each piece. Twin mainsprings offer 72 hours of power reserve.
Tribute to 1873
Walter Lange revived the A. Lange & Söhne known and loved by so many in 1994. However, A. Lange & Söhne was actually established by Walter Lange’s great-grandfather Ferdinand Adolph Lange in 1845. Today, the brand continues to pay tribute to its origins.
A notable design element of the LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary” is its hinged cuvette case back engraved with a special motif. As you'll see in the photos, the engraving reads “25 YEARS LANGE 1.” Enhancing the case back's unique design is a relief of Lange’s headquarters and the inscribed names of Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein. It's a masterful touch.
Pricing and availability
The LANGE 1 “25th Anniversary” is limited to 250 pieces worldwide. It’s priced at 43,700 EUR.
