Graduation Day: Girard-Perregaux’s Latest Class of Laureatos
These two new pink gold models with vibrant dial approaches prove that, when it comes to the classic appeal of the popular Laureato timepiece, sophisticated variations on a theme are just fine and dandy.
Today, on the heels of the recent release of an exciting new titanium execution and an eye-catching bejeweled copper-tone dial version of the beloved Laureato sports watch (celebrating its 49th anniversary this year), Girard-Perregaux shares two new 42mm pink gold variations that take the beloved watch into deeper chromatic and precious metal territory.
Those of you familiar with the Laureato story know that the timepiece’s flexible design canvas has allowed a tremendous variation of materials, color themes, and horological approaches to find a home on its unmistakable octagon-on-circle-on-tonneau case since its introduction in 1975. However, perhaps the most attractive and one of the most popular versions has been pink gold. The rosy metal just seems to take to the geometric melange of the Laureato so well.
So, let’s take a look at these new models.
Shared Values
Both of these new models share the simplicity and elegance of gold baton-style hands and indices as well as the outstanding finishing touches to the Manufacture Calibre GP01800 self-winding movement visible through sapphire casebacks (including Côtes de Genève embellishment on the rotor and engraving, beveling, mirror-polishing, and satin-finish work on the components).
However, today’s debuts from Girard-Perregaux present divergent dial colorways that offer two very different vibes for the Laureato.
First, in a classic hobnail Clous de Paris pattern, the herbaceous sage green execution grows across the dial real estate, offering a more serious yet distinctive color signature countering the gleam of the pink gold case and dial furnishings.
Meanwhile, the plated “GP” logo, indices and hands (which are lumed), model badging, and date aperture at 3 o’clock create minimal design interference for this field of sage to bloom on the wrist.
Second, the ultramarine blue dial version in this new set of Laureatos has an undeniable maritime one-two punch, especially paired with the watch’s abundance of pink gold. Even if it’s on the blue alligator or complimentary blue rubber strap, the rosy metal pops against the blue.
Bolder than its sage-colored sibling, this execution reads a little bigger (even though both new watches have the exact same dimensions and specifications).
For the ultramarine blue version of the watch (which also features a Clous de Paris pattern on the dial), you can choose the same beefy h-link pink gold bracelet as the green version above. However, a color-matched blue alligator strap option offers some additional evening elegance.
The alligator option also includes a complimentary color-matched blue rubber strap to cover more sporty uses of the Laureato (hence why, like its spice-colored sister, the ultramarine blue version carries a 50-meter water resistance rating).
Pricing & Availability
Debuting today and available at Girard-Perregaux retailers worldwide, the 42mm sage green Laureato lists for $51,900.
Meanwhile, the 42mm ultramarine blue version on a pink gold bracelet sells for $51,900, and the blue alligator strap iteration with the complimentary blue rubber strap retails for $35,400.
