Citizen Releases Two New Series 8 Limited Editions Inspired by Cityscapes
Along with its popular, tech-forward Attesa models, the Series8 collection now falls under the watchmaker’s new “Premiere” category, so expect a special urban-angled celebration of Tokyo’s city design in this trio of new limited editions.
Behind its announcement earlier this year about its new Premiere category, Citizen fans were bound to expect new models in both the Series8 and Attesa collections.
However, with an emphasis on urban environment inspiration, this trio of mechanical Series8 limited editions, in particular, does a strong service for the Premiere category’s stated mission to honor the country’s estimable craftsmanship and heritage.
Series8 880 Mechanical Limited Edition
The new reference NB6035-55H elevates the travel-readiness of a GMT’s second time zone to new heights of inspired design.
Besides having a classically legible split GMT bezel of white and black, the 41mm stainless steel watch (with grey and yellow gold-tone plating on the case and bracelet) features a fascinating dial that has a gradient effect moving from white to black meant to evoke the feel of streetlights illuminating recently fallen snow on city asphalt.
The appealing colorway, especially with its pops of yellow gold tones, is an appropriately sophisticated approach for city dwellers. Powered by the GMT Cal. 9054 movement (which supports both automatic and manual winding), this limited edition timepiece offers 50 hours of power reserve for sporty urban adventures.
Series8 890 Mechanical Limited Editions x 2
With “silver and gold” resonating as a strong urban message (think “the city of silver and gold”), two new executions of the Series8 890 (references NB6062-52P and NB6060-58H) spin their 42.6mm tales of the city in both a shimmering silvery steel and a glorious yellow gold-plated steel approach.
The geometric-textured dials recall a cityscape at dawn, awaiting a new, busy day (in the case of the silvery “58H” model), and the same milieu in brilliant twinkling lights for a nighttime feel (in the case of the yellow gold-toned “52P” model).
These artful dials, inspired by Japan’s famous sakura flowers, bring an unexpected visual elevation to the Series8 890’s decidedly chunky, hexagonal bezel, protected crown, and 2 o’clock crown for inner bezel adjustment sportiness.
Both are based on the Cal. 9051 movement (supporting automatic and manual winding) and provide a 42-hour power reserve.
