Eco-Drive Tech, Satellite Timekeeping, Super Titanium, and Ceramic Come Together in Two New Citizen Attesa Models
The Japanese watch brand is betting on the potent combination of advanced technology and edgy materials to dictate the future of the sporty Attesa chronograph line.
Japanese watchmaker Citizen has always taken a leading position at the intersection of materials and technology, especially how those elements relate to familiar watch formats. The latest Attesa sport chronographs – the CC4104 and CC4105 – are a case in point.
Featuring durable, brush-finished ceramic bezels, a first for the Attesa line, this duo initially presents like a sleek modern take on a sports chronograph. That is to say, each feature protected crowns, pushers right where you’d expect them, and the traditional triple sub-dial dial approach.
However, their seemingly typical appearance masks some hidden material and technological innovations that might not be so apparent.
Inside Tech
Available in either a black ceramic bezel on metal execution (the CC4104-53E) or an all-black version (the CC4105-69E), the new Attesa models have the same diameter (43.2mm) and feature an octagonally-shaped case and bezel. Moreover, both models are powered by the latest F950 movement, which is not only Citizen’s most advanced Eco-Drive movement, but the F950 is also the most advanced Eco-Drive to include Satellite Wave GPS technology.
That means these timepieces can receive time-correcting GPS satellite signals in as little as three seconds (according to Citizen, that’s the fastest signal reception rate in the world for an analog light-powered timepiece). Additionally, with Double Direct Flight technology, a wearer can quickly switch between satellite-accurate times from 26 time zones (in just two simple steps).
The F950 runs for five years on a full charge (in power-saving mode), and even without utilizing the time signal reception check-in, the movement will have an accuracy of +/- five seconds per month. Throw in world time and perpetual calendar functions, 1/20th of a second chronograph accuracy, and other technical perks, and that’s a whole lot of handsome accuracy and timing flexibility on your wrist.
Again, Citizen expands our idea of analog watches by including futuristic capabilities in a straightforward sports chrono.
Outside Materials
When laying out the model options, you probably noticed we were rather coy about an important fact, referring to the non-bezel elements as “metal.” That is because the metal used to make these new Attesas is special. More specifically, it’s Citizen’s proprietary Super Titanium.
In production terms, Super Titanium allows for a more gleaming presentation and finer tooling so that, for example, the new ceramic bezel fits more snugly with the ridges of the case.
Expect the Super Titanium to be paired with a Duratect Titanium Carbine surface-hardening treatment for the silver-toned/black ceramic bezel model and an inky Duratect DLC coating for the all-black rendition.
Lastly, Super Titanium will likely be factoring into Citizen’s plans more and more in the coming months (but you didn’t hear that from us).
