Approaching the end of the year, we take a look back at some of our favorite moments of 2018. Up first, some of the most unusual articles published this year.  From Jay-Z to Flipping, we've covered all the bases. Happy reading!

By Watchonista

Watch journalism is often filled with the terms "hands-on", "in-depth", and countless reviews titled, "a (day/week/month) on the wrist." The derivitave nature of these kind of articles lead some to criticize our industry.

While we're certainly guilty of using these terms at Watchonista, we do like to mix things up from time to time. Here are five of our favorite unusual articles of 2018.

Jay-Z and Beyonce

This summer, our favorite horological/rap power couple dropped a surprise album (‘Everything is Love’) chocked full of watch references. Perhaps the most polarizing being Beyonce deliberately rapping about "Philippe Patek." Our resident rap fanatic Josh Shanks broke down the references song-by-song in an article that ended up going viral.

Dressing as Ultraman for Halloween

Just in time for Halloween, our favorite Japanese superhero suited up and hit the streets of New York with his ultra-special Speedy Tuesday ‘Ultraman’ edition strapped to the wrist.

Apocalyptic Moments

Election days have the tendacy to bring out the best and worst of a democracy. As of late, politics have been polarizing in the United States. While things haven't quite reached an apocalyptic nature, our Rhonda Riche put together a handy list just to make sure you're prepared in case things take a turn for the worst.

In praise of slow time

We understand, we are an online magazine that is specialized in watches. People come to Watchonista for the very latest watchmaking news. But for this article, our Benjamin Teisseire decded to talk about slowing down time and appreciating the finer things in life.

Exposing the secondary markets

We know, you are still waiting for that precious call from your retailer. You've been anxious waiting for that precious Stainless-Steel Rolex that you ordered a couple of years ago. Today, you can easily buy that very watch on a multitude of scondary markets, but usually with huge premiums. We took a closer look behind the scenes of some of the most unscrupulous dealers.

And receive each week a custom selection of articles.
