24 Hours Later: The New H. Moser & Cie. x UNDEFEATED Streamliner Chronograph

The iconoclastic watchmaker teamed up with the L.A.-based sneaker and street culture brand for a kick-ass collaboration.

At this point, there is no doubt in my mind that 2022 will go down for producing more unexpected (but very welcome) watch releases than any other in the past decade. And we’re only halfway through June!

When it comes to H. Moser & Cie., we shouldn’t be surprised when the brand announces a killer new collaboration. This time, the iconic independent brand has teamed up with UNDEFEATED, a Los Angeles-based street culture brand and sneaker boutique. Both brands embrace a minimalist aesthetic, an eye for detail, and a somewhat irreverent take on traditional marketing.

But what makes the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Chronograph UNDEFEATED so noteworthy is that it feels familiar and new while pushing the boundaries of what luxury means now.

The Drip

H. Moser & Cie. has been in the watchmaking game since 1828, but the manufacture was reborn in April 2013, when Edouard Meylan became CEO. It didn’t take long for the brand to find its bailiwick through its passion for innovation – making the majority of its movement components (including the hairsprings and regulating organs) and supplying parts to partner companies.

Moser is also an independent brand, which means it’s free to innovate while selling and marketing its products. Take, for example, the brand’s collaboration with the style destination The Armoury from January.

The brands got together to create a pair of limited-edition dress watches inspired by solar eclipses earlier this year. Limited to only 56 pieces between the two models, the H. Moser x The Armoury Endeavour Small Seconds Total Eclipse was sold using a lottery system.

Or look back to 2021, when Moser teamed up with custom watch modifier Romaric André, a.k.a. Seconde/Seconde/, to create the playful Endeavour Centre Seconds X Seconde/Seconde/ – a watch that replaced the second hand with a stylized eraser that “rubbed out” the Moser logo.

These collaborations create a lot of buzz, and while some may even try to write them off as gimmicky, the actual timepieces meet the highest standards of horological excellence. It’s the way that H. Moser & Cie. communicates that breaks from convention. That brings us to the drip.

The Urban Dictionary defines “drip” as an adjective meaning something or someone has immense swag. And the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Chronograph UNDEFEATED certainly meets that definition, at least in part because of its collaboration with the very cool, LA-based lifestyle brand.

The Drop

Like H. Moser, UNDEFEATED has also been ahead of its time. Born in 2002, this premium street style boutique was founded by James Bond and Eddie Cruz. UNDEFEATED frequently collaborates with brands such as A Bathing Ape, Champion, Neighborhood, WTAPS, Adidas, ASICS, Converse, Nike, and Vans.

“The Drop” – i.e., releasing a new limited-edition shoe without a lot of advanced notice – is a big part of the streetwear lifestyle, as is this collaboration between seemingly old school and new school brands. The drop is also redefining what luxury means because part of an object’s value now includes getting your hands on them before anybody else does. Think of high/low collaborations like Supreme’s MetroCards, the MoonSwatch, and the Tiffany & Co. Patek Philippe Nautilus.

Of course, sneakerheads are also often big-time watch collectors. And the idea for this particular collaboration came from Eric Cheng, one of UNDEFEATED’s co-owners and an H. Moser collector.

As Cheng explained in the press release: “With its unconventional approach and philosophy, H. Moser & Cie. is a sort of UNDEFEATED of the watch industry. Two of its key strengths are that it is bold and ahead of its time. It’s a very inspiring brand.” So, when Cheng contacted Meylan, a new take on the manufacture’s Streamliner Chronograph was born.

The Lifestyle

What is most impressive about this watch is how far the partners can stretch their signature styles without breaking the design. But that comes down to each brand having a strong point of view, so they are not just throwing a logo on top of an existing watch.

The Streamliner Chronograph UNDEFEATED is sport-inspired and built around the themes of victory and virtue. Moreover, the fluid lines the Streamliner Chronograph is known for are amplified by the bold design of the dial.

Interestingly, this Streamliner is the first to feature an anthracite grey DLC coating on its cushion case and integrated bracelet links. “We used DLC on this model at the request of UNDEFEATED,” explained Meylan in the press release. “Eric Cheng wanted a watch with a bold, strong character and a certain vitality, and which would slowly develop a patina over time.”

This bespoke coating is paired with a Black Tiger Camo fumé dial. This camo motif – a favorite of UNDEFEATED – is engraved on the dial and then given several coats of lacquer to create the color. The finish is then applied to the dried stain to obtain H. Moser & Cie.’s signature fumé effect.

It’s also important to note that the limited edition will also be accompanied by a capsule collection that includes an H. Moser & Cie. wall clock and a friends and family jacket developed exclusively by UNDEFEATED. These accessories acknowledge both brands’ highly active and engaged communities.

Pricing & Availability

Available for purchase via UNDEFEATED.com and H. Moser & Cie.’s e-commerce platform starting June 22nd, the Streamliner Chronograph UNDEFEATED is limited to 76 pieces and will cost $55,000. For more information, visit the H. Moser & Cie. website.
