The impact of musicians on culture cannot be understated. We download the songs, spend insane amounts of money on concert tickets, and then buy the t-shirt on top of it all. Our taste in tunes helps define who we are.

No wonder watchmakers are eager to collaborate on limited-edition pieces with pop stars of all genres. Not only will die-hard fans want to wear their love for certain performers on their sleeves, but a collaboration will raise awareness of a brand amongst collectors from outside the watch enthusiast community.

One brand that is especially good at creating a connection between the worlds of music and timepieces is Bulova. Take, for example, its 10-piece Frank Sinatra collection from 2020. Or the brand’s long-standing partnership with Marc Anthony.

Now, Bulova has just announced its first timepiece in a new collection made in partnership with the Tony Bennett Foundation, the “We Are All Here” watch.

All That Jazz

Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in Long Island City in 1926, Tony Bennett was a legendary jazz and pop interpreter of the classic American songbook, recording over 70 albums, the last with Lady Gaga in 2021. His hits include “I Left My Heart in San Francisco and “Rags to Riches.”

The Bulova story has certain parallels with Bennett’s career trajectory. The brand was born in New York in 1875 but rose to prominence in the Jazz Age by embracing advertising across all platforms, including radio. And like Bennett, Bulova’s involvement in the music scene goes way back.

Again, using Sinatra as an example, the crooner wore Bulova timepieces throughout his life. And in the 1950s, Bulova was the sponsor of the Frank Sinatra Show TV program. It also doesn’t hurt that the brand is a longtime sponsor of the Latin Grammys.

Whether you’re coming at this new watch as a Bennett or as a Bulova fan, it feels like it’s coming from an authentic place.

Time Signatures

This is the first of several releases slated for the year ahead, with each honoring Tony’s enduring contributions to music, civil rights, and education. This edition, called “We Are All Here,” leans into his legacy as a humanitarian.

This particular piece is inspired by a conversation between singer Ella Fitzgerald and Bennett during the 1965 Montgomery marches. These protests took place along the 54-mile (87 km) highway from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital of Montgomery.

Many artists, including Fitzgerald and Bennett, took part in these nonviolent marches to demonstrate the need for voting rights for Black Americans and to symbolize solidarity. It was a pivotal moment in American politics and another example of the transformative power of music.

Bennett recalled the moment in an interview years later: “Regardless of religion or race or ethnic background, we are all human and we are all on this planet together. So, what better reason do you need to not tolerate any form of violence against another human being?”

The Details

Its deep purple color palette is meant to represent hope and unity. Its slim silhouette and textured dial were inspired by octagonal case shapes from 1960s watches from the Bulova archives. And the caseback is etched with Bennett’s signature and the phrase “We Are All Here.”

A portion of the proceeds from each watch sold will support the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, continuing Bennett’s mission to uplift the next generation of artists.

While we don’t have information on the specs yet, we do know that the Bulova “We Are All Here” is priced at $495 and is available starting today via select retailers and Bulova’s website.
