At the 88th edition of the renowned motor show, we saw supercars and super watches revealed. Here’s a photo report.
While Geneva’s PALEXPO convention center may be known to us in the watch industry as the epicenter of one of the most important watch shows of the year (SIHH). It draws a far larger crowd to its annual motor show. Bringing in manufactures from around the globe to unveil their latest supercars, hypercars, electric cars, and everything in-between.
In recent years, watch brands have used the motor show as a platform to expose their partnerships and special edition watches. This year was no exception, we saw arguably the largest presence of watch brands with a flurry of announcements throughout the opening days of the show.
Geneva Motor Show watch announcements
The show kicked into high gear on opening day when TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver and Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer announced that TAG Heuer would become the official timekeeper for Aston Martin Racing. As far as watches and cars are concerned, the first result of this partnership was an unveiling of a Vantage GTE which will represent TAG Heuer in the 24 hours of Le Mans. TAG Heuer also released a Formula 1 Aston Martin edition.
TAG Heuer didn’t stop with a single announcement, in fact they took out a 1,000 square meter stand to showcase their commitment to autos and racing. Notably, a Ford GT Gulf welcomed visitors and positioned right behind? TAG Heuer’s new GULF Monaco Limited Edition.
It wouldn’t be a car party without the likes of Richard Mille and this year, Mr. Mille didn’t disappoint. Continuing their partnership with McLaren, we saw the release of the RM 11-03, a super light flyback chronograph made with black carbon TPT mixed with orange quartz TPT. This watch was probably the most polarizing release of the show and regardless, it looks phenomenal on the wrist and is sure to be a conversation starter.
