A day with an Audemars Piguet, beaching

Out of nine passengers landing on the St Barth’s runway at least one of them is always praying for the tiny plane not to crash into the sea. Then, the automatic behavior is to look at your Audemars Piguet adjusted to your wrist to check the time… what a chic way to read your potential death time!

The iconic Royal Oak in the water… only non-watchonistas can still wonder if the timepiece is waterproof… hell yeah. It would have been weird to wear a timepiece inspired by the window of a boat that wouldn’t go under water… specially adapted with a rubber bracelet matching the color of the brown-toned dial with a «Grand Tapisserie» motif right?

Sea, watch and sun!

Hat and sunscreen on, the 4x4 open-air jeep I rented out from Gustavia Airport takes me to Saline for a morning walk at sunrise. The long white sand beach with a 28 degrees celcius of turquoise water helps you beat the jetlag- the faster the better! Always remember to set your watch in the plane on the way to your destination.

And no need to think about rewinding your watch, the newest Lady Royal Oak has a quartz movement. Pretty convenient right?

Enjoying before burning … The fourty diamonds paving the bezel of my watch are shining too much – it’s noon already! I believe it is time to hop back in the car to drive down St Jean Bay in order to sip, feet in the sand, a fresh smoothie. Option one would be to rent a long chair by the lake-like Carribean sea watching a plane landing every half hour while you swim back and forth in the bay area. Option two is to be considered if napping is part of it. Gouverneur beach is less than ten minutes from there (or from technically any part of the island- a fact a chronograph could confirm but I don’t have one, too bad…). Ok, I still got red gold and diamonds not so bad after all?

Poor me!

The well-deserved signature club sandwich of the Isle de France hotel is to be tried, and so is their Island Cheesecake…it would be a shame more than a mistake not to order them.

Located on the Flamands Beach, further away from the village, the planes and what can be called the “crowd” – the hotel is a great spot to spend the rest of the day, and have a look at the “crowd’s” wrists to check on some variations of the watch I am currently getting a mark tan from ... I may or may not want to try on later in the day.

When mosquitos start to use my golden flesh as their main course dinner, it is a good timing to get back to Gustavia for a little shopping session in the village.  Probably one if not the only village on earth where you can leave your car keys inside the car with bags left unattended, there will be at the exact place you left them- but keep your AP on your wrist – you never know right?
