Tiffany & Co. Opens a Store in Geneva, Switzerland

Tiffany & Co. today celebrated the opening of a 5,900-square-foot store at 21 rue du Rhône, in the center of Geneva’s luxury shopping district.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Florence Rollet, Tiffany group vice president, Middle East and Africa, said, “ Opening a store in this preeminent city of style and beauty underscores our commitment to business development in Europe. This store also represents a return to a city where, in the 19th century, Tiffany operated a massive watch factory and partnered with the finest Swiss craftsmen. We welcome everyone to discover our renowned collections, particularly our new watches, presented in a richly appointed salon.”

Frédéric Cumenal, CEO Tiffany & Co

Inspired by details from the Art Deco period and luxury ocean liners of the 1930s, including walnut vitrines, suede wall covering and striking sundial on black lacquer, the salon marks a new era of Tiffany watchmaking, leading with the new Tiffany CT60™  timepiece. Named for founder Charles Tiffany (1812–), whose ambition and daring exemplified the famous phrase—New York Minute—the collection is accompanied by an archival exhibition showing Tiffany’s history of horology in Geneva. On view through the end of July, the exhibition includes a Patek Philippe timepiece (1849) sold at Tiffany’s New York store; the Tiffany Timer, America’s first stopwatch, and gold pocket watches with intricate movements and elaborate cases handcrafted at Tiffany’s Geneva facility that opened on Place Cornavin in 1874.

In honor of this rich heritage and the opening of the rue du Rhône store, the company created a limited edition of 10 Tiffany CT60™  calendar watches in 18 karat white gold. The timepieces are individually numbered and engraved on the case back with a rendering of Tiffany’s original 1874 factory. A limited edition cocktail watch, with Tiffany Yellow Diamonds or pink diamonds in 18 karat white gold is also available.

Tiffany’s diamonds illuminate every collection, including engagement rings, the ultimate symbols of true love; radiant Tiffany Yellow Diamonds; Jean Schlumberger’s masterpieces; Elsa Peretti’s jewelry of elegant simplicity and Paloma Picasso’s colorful creations. Customers will also discover bold and graphic Atlas® jewelry, along with Tiffany T, created by design director Francesca Amfitheatrof with all the energy and optimism of New York City, where the company was founded in 1837.

Here too, for a limited time, is the magnificent Tiffany Diamond, mounted in a necklace of white diamonds totaling over 100 carats. Tiffany’s founder purchased the rough stone in 1878, and later cut the gem to its current weight of 128.54 carats. The Diamond permanently resides on the main floor of the Fifth Avenue store and travels only for special occasions, where it brilliantly represents Tiffany’s diamond legacy.

For the new Geneva location, Tiffany’s architects and designers created a modern store environment embellished with archival motifs. The façade is finished with Art Deco-style fluting in stainless steel and a wheat leaf pattern etched in Tiffany Blue glass, details that distinguish the façade of the Fifth Avenue store. The jewelry, bridal and private sales salons are seamlessly designed with walls of cream velvet surrounding stainless steel display cases, panels of wisteria in white gold, and magnolias blossoming in gold sconces. These floral patterns are inspired by the stained glass masterworks of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–), son of the company’s founder and a legendary artist and designer.
