The following is the tribute that Beat Haldimann paid to his master watchmaker in the prologue of the book he published in 2005: “When I close my eyes, I see myself in the marvelous workshop where I spent my training years and learned how antique and new masterpieces were restored. Under the alliance of art, technique, handicrafts, I wish to design such pieces too”.

Born in 1950, the watchmaker begun his career with a first specialization in horological and technical challenges. While he was named the producer of the smallest wooden clock in the Guinness World Records book, he remains above all the watchmaker who contributed to the achievement of the most complicated wristwatch to date.

Born in the Netherlands, the historian worked as a curator at the Groninger Museum, then moved to the British Museum as Curator of Horology. He regularly travels to and from the United States - where he is currently studying - the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. 

The watch artisan is known for his reconstructions of Giovanni Dondi's Astrarium, an astronomical clock designed and developed in the late 14th century before it prematurely disappeared in the 16th century. After that, only a detailed illustrated description of its design remained in the form of eleven manuscripts kept in different libraries.
