A passionate car collector, with one of just four 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupes in the world, Ralph Lauren was inspired by the burl wood dashboard and steering wheel of this rare car to design the Automotive collection using noble amboyna hardwoods. The new 39mm size maintains the artful integrity of the original 45mm watch but expands the collection to watch aficionados who prefer a smaller proportion.

The new RL Automotive 39mm timepiece features a shot-blasted black gunmetal stainless steel case that beautifully contrasts the rich amboyna burl wood bezel, expertly hand-cut and finished by artisans to reveal the deep tones and mottled grain. The black matte galvanic dial is set with beige Super-LumiNova® numerals and classic sword- shaped hands. With a highly complex and multi-step process that includes sand- and micro-blasting, the crown is also made from black gunmetal shot-blasted steel, which adds to its durability.

The mechanical manual-wind movement made by Jaeger-LeCoultre for Ralph Lauren displays hours, minutes and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. It features a convex sapphire crystal coated with an antireflective treatment, and a smoky sapphire crystal caseback secured with six screws for viewing of the precision movement. The finishing touch is a signature RL logo at 12 o’clock inspired by vintage racecars.
