In the rarefied world of high watchmaking, evolution is often whispered rather than declared. Yet from time to time, a creation emerges that subtly but decisively redefines an icon. Via a striking fusion of grade 5 titanium and an arresting deep red dial, Vacheron Constantin does precisely this with its newest Overseas Tourbillon.

At once sporty, elegant, and technically audacious, this timepiece reinforces the Overseas collection’s status as a pillar of contemporary luxury, while paying homage to the Manufacture’s uncompromising horological heritage.

Titanium, Elevated to Art

Titanium has long been prized in watchmaking for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and contemporary allure. Thirty percent stronger than steel and nearly half its weight, it is a material that perfectly echoes the adventurous yet refined spirit of the Overseas line.

Vacheron Constantin’s relationship with titanium began in 2009, when it was first used for select Overseas components. The material gained prominence in 2019 with the Everest editions developed with photographer and explorer Cory Richards, before reaching a technical peak in 2022 with the fully titanium Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton. A blue-dial tourbillon followed two years later.

This new deep red interpretation marks the first time titanium is paired with such a rich, lacquered hue in the collection, opening a fresh aesthetic chapter while remaining true to its lineage.

“Titanium is perfectly suited to the Overseas spirit,” explains Christian Selmoni, Style and Heritage Director at Vacheron Constantin. “Lightweight, robust and hypoallergenic, it allows us to create tourbillon watches with a sporty elegance that would have been unthinkable just a few decades ago.”

The grade 5 titanium case and bracelet are meticulously finished, combining polished chamfers with vertical satin brushing. The bezel, inspired by the brand’s Maltese cross emblem, features a circular satin-brushed finish set atop a sandblasted ring, enhancing visual depth.

This interplay of finishes accentuates the watch’s refined proportions, housed in a 42.5mm grade 5 titanium case, ensuring a commanding yet exceptionally comfortable presence on the wrist.

A Dial That Commands Attention

The deep red dial is more than a color choice – it is a statement. Executed with a sunburst satin-brushed finish and framed by a lacquered flange, it captures light dynamically, shifting in tone from crimson to burgundy depending on the angle. This rich backdrop magnifies the visual drama of the tourbillon aperture at six o’clock, transforming a technical regulator into a focal point of poetic motion.

Despite its bold character, the dial remains unmistakably Overseas: legible, balanced, and refined, with applied hour markers and hands that underscore the watch’s functional elegance.

One Watch, Three Personalities

Versatility has always been central to the Overseas philosophy, and this tourbillon model is no exception. Delivered with an integrated titanium bracelet featuring a triple-blade folding clasp, the watch includes a comfort-adjustment system allowing a discreet 4mm extension – ideal for daily wear.

To further personalize its presence, two additional rubber straps in deep red and crisp white are supplied. Each strap can be exchanged effortlessly, without tools, thanks to Vacheron Constantin’s ingenious quick-release system. The grade 5 titanium folding clasp is fully interchangeable, allowing the watch to transition seamlessly from refined urban companion to relaxed, sporty statement.

The Poetry of an Ultra-Thin Tourbillon

At the heart of this creation lies the automatic calibre 2160, an ultra-thin movement measuring just 5.65mm thick. Despite its slim profile, it integrates a full tourbillon regulator and delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve.

Its technical ingenuity is highlighted by a peripheral oscillating weight in 22K (916/1000) guilloché-decorated gold, ensuring efficient bidirectional winding while preserving an unobstructed view of the movement. By positioning the oscillating mass around the calibre rather than above it, Vacheron Constantin achieves both visual clarity and remarkable thinness.

The tourbillon features an openworked cage with a peripheral drive, eliminating the central pinion for optimal energy transmission. All 188 components are finished to Hallmark of Geneva standards, with circular graining, hand-beveled Côtes de Genève bridges, polished screws, and exquisitely finished tourbillon elements – an expression of haute horlogerie at its purest.
