The most recent family member of Bucherer’s infamous BLUE collection: The FREAK X Bucherer BLUE will be available exclusively in Bucherer boutiques and online at bucherer.com from July 2020.
Ulysse Nardin has been producing ultra-high precision timepieces for free spirits since 1846. A pioneering name in watchmaking, Ulysse Nardin is known for being as disruptive as it is innovative - and the perfect match for Bucherer BLUE. Together, these leading lights in the world of Haute Horlogerie have created a timepiece that embodies untamed imagination and exceptional craftsmanship for true connoisseurs: the stunning result of this combined effort is the FREAK X Bucherer BLUE.
This shining example of boundary-pushing watch technology is built around the FREAK’s iconic design codes. Starting with its experimental movement (it turns once on itself every hour), the signature, baguette-shaped carousel concept has no dial, instead using a central bridge as the minute hand while one of the wheels indicates hours.
FREAK X Bucherer BLUE – an exception to the rule
A super-light balance wheel, visible to the naked eye, sits at the heart of the FREAK design. Crafted from silicium with nickel flyweights and stabilising micro-blades, it defines the new UN-230 caliber. Flashes of vivid blue highlight details including the indexes, gear train at six o’clock, and Ulysse Nardin logo on the caseback of an entirely transformed body. Its textural finish - Created with Carbonium® - and curved lines characterize the FREAK X Bucherer BLUE unique look.
The FREAK X Bucherer BLUE is constructed from Carbonium , a next-generation carbon composite that is robust, resilient and is a completely unexpected choice for watchmaking. Commonly found in the fuselage and wings of modern aircraft, this super- light and sustainable material, developed to make essential aeronautical components, adds a disruptive edge to the FREAK’s design.
Carbonium® has 40% less environmental impact than other composites due its production via using “discarded” materials from the aviation industry. This high-performance ion, created at high pressure and temperature, brings out the organic pattern of the carbon fibre, making each marbled case one of a kind.
The FREAK X Bucherer BLUE bold modern masterpiece is limited to 88 pieces to reflect 1888: the year Bucherer was founded.
