Baselworld 2015: Movado 1881 Automatic

Movado proudly introduces a new generation of modern automatic timepieces with the launch of the men’s 1881 Automatic™ – a collection that seamlessly blends sophisticated engineering and streamlined style.

Powered by fine Swiss self-winding movements, these contemporary new watches are designed for those with an appreciation for Movado’s modern design aesthetic as well as the intricate craft of mechanical time-keeping.

The new 1881 Automatic for men features a simple round 39.5 mm case crafted in polished and brushed solid stainless steel or gold PVD-finished stainless steel, topped by a sapphire crystal. An exhibition case-back reveals the intricate workings of the fine Swiss ETA 2824.2 self-winding movement.

Encircled by a reflector ring with contrasting sandblasted finish, the sunray-textured dial creates subtle yet striking impact discretely detailed by a stamped hour and minute index with applied hour marker accents, thin dauphine hour and minute hands, a stick seconds hand, and Movado’s signature concave dot at 12 o’clock. The date is displayed via a small round aperture at 6 o’clock.

The stainless steel version is offered with a choice of blue or black dial with silver-toned accents and subtle white lettering. The yellow gold PVD-finished model features a black dial with gold-toned accents and lettering. All three watches are presented on soft black leather straps finished with a matching stainless steel or gold PVD-finished classic tongue buckle.

Movado remains a company on the move with the introduction of the men’s new 1881 Automatics – a collection that pays homage to a proud heritage with watch designs for today’s contemporary, discerning consumer.
