Mido Ocean Star

Press Release

Mido Ocean Star

An essential sporty-chic look for all those with a yearning to set sail on the high seas.

Two nautical-inspired timepieces are joining the Ocean Star collection. These sporty, elegant pieces each have their own distinct personality. The first comes with a sumptuous green grained dial and a leather strap that will acquire a patina over time. A resolutely vintage look and colour scheme evoke the seaside. The second model draws inspiration from the maritime world. It has a deep blue dial and a fabric looking strap in the same shade, reminiscent of boat rigging. The two timepieces are fitted with a robust steel case with polished and satin-finished pink gold PVD treatment and feature an aluminium unidirectional rotating bezel in green or blue. Essential companions for all fans of nautical activities, these Ocean Star pieces combine robustness, elegance and accuracy. Water-resistant to 20 bars (200 m/660 ft), they are equipped with the Calibre 80, a next-generation automatic movement which gives them a power reserve of up to 80 hours.

Built to withstand any storm, the Europa Point lighthouse watches over the Gibraltar Strait. Its powerful beam of light is an essential point of reference for sailors approaching the shores of the Iberian Peninsula. Created in 1944, the Ocean Star collection evokes the safety and reliability of this robust, slender monument, the symbol of a structure guiding mankind in its conquest of the seas.

Released as two versions with distinct personalities, the new Ocean Star is a sporty-chic timepiece dedicated to lovers of nautical activities. The first model sports a bold vintage look and features a sumptuous green grained dial continued by a leather strap that acquires a patina over time, finished with ecru stitching. This subtle colour scheme calls to mind the sand and seaside vegetation. The second model is inspired by the maritime world and the call of the sea, with its deep blue grained dial and blue fabric looking strap, reminiscent of boat rigging. The straps of these two timepieces are fitted with a pin buckle in stainless steel with a polished and satin-finished pink gold PVD treatment.

The dials of both Ocean Star models are protected by a robust 42.5 mm diameter case in steel with elegant polished and satin-finished pink gold PVD treatment. The case is enhanced by a polished aluminium unidirectional rotating bezel in green or blue, according to the model, which features a dot of white Super- LumiNova® at 12 o’clock. The sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides means that these superb dials can be admired without moderation. The generous touches of white Super-LumiNova® on the indexes and hands guarantee perfect legibility in all situations. The skeletonised hour and minute hands are polished and satin-finished with pink gold PVD treatment. A touch of orange Super-LumiNova® placed at the end of the seconds hand recalls Mido’s visual identity, while an aperture at 3 o’clock indicates the day and date.

At a party on the beach or at a regatta on the high seas, the nautical look of these two timepieces combines robustness, elegance and accuracy. Water-resistant to a pressure of 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), they house a most magnificent example of watchmaking innovation: the Caliber 80. This latest-generation automatic movement provides up to 80 hours of power reserve. The case back has a surprise in store for all marine enthusiasts: it is decorated with a polished starfish in relief – the symbol of the Ocean Star collection.
