As Linde Werdelin marks its tenth anniversary of launching the Founders Watch in 2006, a special timepiece has been made for the occasion. Sold by invitation only, the LW 10-24 arrives ten years after the Founders Watch and Biformeter. This is the Third Generation of Linde Werdelin.

This is a moment that looks to Linde Werdelin’s past as well as to its future. The LW 10-24 bears similarities to all 73 series before it, showcasing the Linde Werdelin DNA and highlighting design inspirations, but also it is something dramatically new. The first series were designed around the concept of Watch plus Instrument, The Idea. Perfecting The Idea was the goal: to read time mechanically and assimilate technical details digitally. In journeying from the Biformeter through to the Spido and Oktopus, via the Rock and the Reef, these 10 years show horological achievement.

“Everything that is developed at Linde Werdelin is inspired by what came before. The LW 10-24 looks to the past for inspiration but is unmistakably developed for the future,” says Morten Linde, co-founder.

The LW 10-24 is a big leap forward for Linde Werdelin, ushering in the Third Generation with a newly-designed case, new complications and the popular Frogman luminent system, all to mark the tenth anniversary of the Founders Watch. And like the Founders Watch, the LW 10-24 is also a GMT watch.

The LW 10-24 will be made available in two variants. One is in 18 karat rose gold, the LW 10-24 Gold; the other is made from 3DTP, a multi-layered carbon material, called the LW 10-24 3DTP Carbon.

Common to Linde Werdelin’s pursuit of skiing and diving, childhood hobbies of founders Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, is the necessity of travel: travelling to the mountains, chasing the freshest snow; or finding the best dive spots, an interesting shipwreck or beautiful coral reef. Travelling is at the centre of both activities.

“A GMT is a traveller’s complication; the LW 10-24 is a traveller’s watch,” says Jorn Werdelin, co-founder.

The pusher system is incredibly convenient for the traveller, not requiring a crown to be unscrewed. With one click, the second time zone jumps an hour forward; additional clicks will rotate the AM/PM or day/night indicators; it is all integrated.

The case is a unique construction, where the bezel recedes into the outer case to become purely functional, a crown-guard and strap-attachment device. The bezel has been stripped back to reveal more of the dial, which consequently allows for larger complications within, all while letting the timepiece maintain the same dimensions on the wrist.

For the first time in a piece sold by Linde Werdelin, the LW 10-24 employs the luminent system developed for the Oktopus Frogman, which absorbs light more quickly and reflects it more efficiently than other systems. The Oktopus Frogman is a special timepiece made for Conventus Ranae, the formal association of Frømandskorpset, the elite Danish military dive unit.

In many ways the LW 10-24 embodies everything that is Linde Werdelin. It builds upon all the horological progress before it and internalises that adventurous spirit.

Included are two back cases: one is signed by founders Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, while the other makes space for a custom engraving – be that initials, a written message or image. The buyer will have the opportunity to work with Morten Linde and his design team on creating this engraving.

The LW 10-24 will be available in two models of up to 96 pieces each: the LW 10-24 Gold and LW 10-24 3DTP Carbon. Serial numbers can be requested but will be made available only on a first-come, first-serve basis. Just like the Founders Watch, the LW 10-24 will be sold by invitation only. Linde Werdelin will close its order book on 31st July 2016 with delivery expected in Q2 2017.
