Pre-Baselworld 2016: IAN WOOSNAM, GOLF LEGEND AND NEW AMBASSADOR

Pre-Baselworld 2016: IAN WOOSNAM, GOLF LEGEND AND NEW AMBASSADOR

This year, golfing watch brand Jaermann & Stübi, The Timepiece of Golf, hopes you will join them once again in the prestigious hall 1.1 at Baselworld to discover its new products.

Known and renowned for its joint projects with golf legends and their respective foundation, this year the brand chose to join forces with another legendary golfer, Ian Woosnam. «Woosie» worked alongside Jaermann & Stübi to develop and design his own series, the case of which was produced using the golf clubs he used to win the 1991 US Masters.

In addition to this, Jaermann & Stübi is continuing to develop its agship «Royal Open» collection by paying tribute to Brazil, the country organising the next Summer Olympic Games. For the rst time since 1904, golf will once again be considered as an Olympic discipline and will take part in the competition with a stroke play tournament over four days (four lots of 18 holes). Today’s best golfers will compete against each other to win one of the famous, much-coveted medals.

While the watches in the «Royal Open» collection do not contain any speci c counters, they do incorporate a shock absorber, giving golfers the possibility of playing with a timepiece on their wrist without damaging it. This new Brazil edition model will be equipped with a course time counter, enabling the wearer to measure the time required to complete a golf course. Furthermore, this mechanism also enables the watch to display a second time zone.

About Ian Woosnam

Ian has had a glittering career since his maiden Tour victory at the Swiss Open in 1982. His career has spanned 48 worldwide tournament victories including the US Masters at Augusta in 1991. In 1987 he was the rst player to win $1 million in prize money in a single year. He has won the European Order of Merit twice and held the ranking of World No.1 for 50 consecutive weeks.

Ian has played in eight Ryder Cups and was awarded the 2006 European Cup captaincy leading his team to victory at K-Club in Ireland. Ian received the OBE in the New Year’s Honours List in recognition of his services to golf.

Ian joined the Seniors Tour in 2008 and promptly secured the Seniors Order of Merit in that rst year. Ian will always be a contender because he always believes he can win. He is one of Britain’s leading gol ng ambassadors, an OBE and an Honorary Member of the European Tour.

«It was a pleasure to handover my golf clubs to the ingenious Swiss watch makers Jaermann & Stübi. Combining their expertise in golf and watchmaking, I can be assured they will handcraft beautiful bespoke watches from my victorious US 1991 Masters irons, as they have already done for gol ng legends Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Ben Crenshaw.» - Ian Woosnam.

Mechanical Golf counter and shock absorber

The in-house teams at Jaermann & Stübi have developed a mechanical counter to record the number of strokes played per hole, giving a total score at the end of 18 holes and a retrograde display of the holes played. At the end of each round, the rotating bezel allows the score to be compared to the player’s handicap.

Because, during their swing, golf players exert a force of 20-40 G in a few milliseconds, the brand also focussed on developing a shock ab- sorber specially designed for this sport, dampe- ning impacts and thereby protecting the mecha- nism and the complication.

In combining design with technology, the golfer’s brand is once again paying tribute to this timeless sport and is using its expertise to ensure golf holds its rightful position in the luxury watchmaking universe.
