Jaeger-LeCoultre Official Timekeeper of British Polo Day in Los Angeles

Saturday, May 30th, 2015 marked the return of British Polo Day USA taking place at Los Angeles' historic Will Rogers State Park - and hosted by Andrew Bossom, British Polo Day’s USA Representative and member of the British Royal Family Lord Frederick Windsor, and his wife, actress and writer Sophie Winkleman.

VIPs and guests including the Duke of Argyll, Prince and Princess Charles Windisch-Graetz, Robert and Justine Bloomingdale, Yana and Fabrizio Alliata di Montreale, Wendy Stark, Dhani Harrison, Bo Derick, top DJ Paul Oakenfold, Sonia Pim Couling and Kenny Loggins had the opportunity to celebrate the very best of British luxury heritage under the West Coast sunshine.

As the Official Timekeeper of British Polo Day, Jaeger-LeCoultre proudly supported the event, continuing its long standing affiliation with the world of Polo. The iconic Reverso watch was also part of the Brand’s highlights including the new Grande Reverso 1931 Seconde Centrale. Directly inspired by the original 1935 model, the timepiece once again showcased the Manufacture's rich watchmaking heritage, combining the user-friendly comfort of a contemporary watch with a vintage aesthetic.

The gavel sounded for the eagerly-anticipated British Polo Day USA Charity Auction – this year raising money for Homeboy Industries (one of LA’s most notable charities empowering former gang members to be self-sufficient) and The UK Stem Cell Foundation (the only UK charity to focus specifically on stem cell research as a potential treatment for a wide range of conditions and diseases). The day’s fundraising reached an impressive US$60,000.

Kicking off the action, the Hackett Harrow Polo team took on the home side, Royal Salute Will Rogers Polo Club in The Land Rover Will Rogers Plate. After a nail-biting match, the home team prevailed and the Hackett Harrow Polo team narrowly missed a last-minute penalty losing the match 4 goals to 5.

Following a delicious afternoon tea, the Justerini & Brooks British Schools team then faced The London Southern California Polo team in the final match of the day: The Hackett Bossom Cup. The Justerini & Brooks British Schools team claimed victory over their Californian rivals in a thrilling game ending 10-5.

At the official British Polo Day USA prize-giving, the superb bespoke British silverware-designed Land Rover Will Rogers Plate was presented by Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor to winners, Royal Salute Will Rogers Polo Club while the triumphant Justerini & Brooks British Schools team then took to the podium to claim British Silverware’s Hackett Bossom Cup.

Royal Salute’s Most Valuable Player was presented to Chevy Beh, while Graydon Brittan won the Holland & Holland Shot of the Day and The London’s Best Playing Pony went to Café, ridden By Imelda de Alba. Imelda herself took home The Harrods ‘Luck of the Draw’ - presented by none other than British Polo Day’s very own resident Harrods Green Man – and the rather dapper Dave Burt won the Hackett Best Dressed prize.

Commenting on British Polo Day USA, Co-Founder Tom Hudson says: “The highlight of this year’s event was most certainly raising significant funds for Homeboy Industries and The UK Stem Cell Foundation. Something we feel immensely proud of. The general ambiance really captured the essence of what we’ve tried to achieve: the best of British and the best of the US. Building on last year’s foundations, a great many guests have returned once more, alongside some new faces, top players and lovers of polo from all corners of the world: from Singapore to Russia; Mexico to Malaysia. Each event is reflective of its community: LA is so fast-paced—bringing British heritage and tradition 6,000 miles ‘across the pond’ to the iconic Will Rogers State Historic Park - the home of such a legendary entertainer is really special”

British Polo Day USA Host and Representative Lord Frederick Windsor commented: “My wife Sophie and I are delighted to be actively involved in this rare and special global endeavor. Los Angeles has been our home for nearly six years and there is something deeply satisfying about celebrating the very best of Britain and the United States as part of a much wider global undertaking. This event has continued to flourish and, on behalf of all the guests, my thanks go to our generous host Andrew Bossom - a fellow Old Etonian - for kindly welcoming us to Will Rogers Polo Club for a second year. In a town where there is plenty of competition for stellar events, I have no doubt that an invitation to British Polo Day has become increasingly desirable.

Jaeger-LeCoultre and the world of Polo

Both on the polo field and in watchmaking workshops, athletes and artisans are guided by the same concern to achieve constant improvement so as to leave an enduring imprint on time through finely tuned moves. Accurate, measured and apparently instinctive moves. Each of them is driven by a vibrant passion nurtured within a team aiming for a common goal. Jaeger-LeCoultre enjoys a rich history with polo, ever since the creation of the Reverso watch in 1931 in response to a request from British colonial officers in India who were tired of damaging their timepieces during matches. Inseparably bound up with this sport through a shared history and common values, Jaeger-LeCoultre actively supports the polo world through a number of partnerships such as the Palermo Open in Argentina and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup in the United Kingdom. Its ambassadors, Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Clare Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven, and Luke Tomlinson brilliantly demonstrate the inner spark that fires them on polo grounds around the world.
