The Jaeger-LeCoultre Jubilee Collection 180 years dedicated to the quest for excellence
On the occasion of the International Salon of Haute Horlogerie, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents a bouquet of luxury watch revelations. The Grande Maison is also celebrating its 180-year anniversary, and has dedicated the Jubilee collection to its founder: “Tribute to Antoine LeCoultre”. This is an anniversary collection that opens new horizons.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Jubilee Collection
Right from its founding, Jaeger-LeCoultre began pushing the boundaries of the watchmaking art. Their aim was to write new pages in the history of complications in the quest for ultimate precision and reliability. Reflecting the inventive spirit of Antoine LeCoultre, the Grande Maison explored uncharted territory in developing prestigious movements. Over 180 years ago, Antoine LeCoultre imagined one of the most beautiful watchmaking adventures ever conceived. In his honour, the Manufacture is dedicating a collection of three watches. As such, the collection, “Tribute to Antoine LeCoultre”, borrows from more than 180 years of passion, determination, and precision. In brief, the creative spirit of Antoine LeCoultre.
Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee, a new pinnacle of the watchmaking art
The Jaeger-LeCoultre gyrotourbillon is an authentic 21st century watchmaking sensation that now appears for the first time with a flying tourbillon, a blued gold balance and a spherical-shaped balance-spring. The Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 also achieves another feat by combining the prodigious precision of the spherical tourbillon with the first instantaneous digital-display chronograph presented within a Grande Complication watch. As the masterpiece of the “Tribute to Antoine LeCoultre” Jubilee trilogy, this new timepiece combines the technical sophistication of the Manufacture and the finishes characteristic of time-honoured watchmaking art with an aesthetic directly inspired by the pocket watches produced by the Manufacture during the 19th century. The spherical tourbillon immediately catches the eye at first glimpse of the face of this Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee model. Nonetheless, even for certain devotees of watchmaking innovation who have already attempted to probe the secrets of the first two spherical tourbillons developed by the Manufacture; this mechanism appears in an entirely new light: for the very first time, the absence of an upper bridge invites the gaze to wander freely through this entrancing miniature universe. The Jaeger-LeCoultre engineers and watchmakers have combined technical inventiveness with a degree of refinement demonstrating a mastery of all aspects of the watchmaking art: the aluminium carriage of the gyrotourbillon has undergone a surface treatment that enhances its ability to reflect the light. The lightness and sturdiness of aluminium generally results in diminished radiance that considerably reduces the reflection of light rays. In this case, the material has reflective properties that enable light to stream into the very heart of the spherical tourbillon. In the Valley of Complications, the quest for precision is destined to continue unabated, and the dexterity of the Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmakers reaches new heights with this new creation.
The creation of this model is a dizzying feat that sets a connoisseur’s heart beating as fast as its mechanism. Inspired by its 19th century perpetual calendars, Jaeger-LeCoultre launches one of its finest complications within the Master Grande Tradition line: the Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Cylindrique à Quantième Perpétuel. Dedicated to collectors and devotees of the watchmaking art, it pays tribute to Antoine LeCoultre and to the 180 years of the Manufacture by brilliantly rising to an authentic mechanical feat. The latest creation from the Manufacture opts for a movement which single-handedly embodies a miniature watchmaking revolution: the new automatic winding mechanical movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 985, of which the tourbillon – equipped with a cylindrical balance- spring – puts on a spectacular watchmaking performance. In terms of aesthetics, the Master Grande Tradition Cylindrique à Quantième Perpétuel features the perfect balance between classicism, purity and relevance – a means of associating its historical origins with elegant modernity. Its new extra-white platinum case pays tribute to the 19th century and draws inspiration from the classic pocket-watch style. Its array of design details reflects these same signature features: hour-markers, a traditional minute circle, and a silver-toned grained dial finish. With the Master Grande Tradition Cylindrique à Quantième Perpétuel Jubilee, Jaeger-LeCoultre reflects the inventive spirit that has characterised the brand since its founding and highlights the perpetual quest for ultimate performance. Issued in a 180- piece limited series, the watch, with its historical aesthetic inspiration and the latest technological breakthroughs, daringly celebrates the 180 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre history.
The Master Ultra Thin Jubilee, the thinnest mechanical manual winding watch in the world. At 4.05 mm thick, it sets a new record for slenderness in the watchmaking world. Its perfect circle is matched by a pure design inspired by an ultra-thin 1907 pocket-watch. Through this new accomplishment, the founder’s creative approach to his profession is more vibrantly alive than ever. Setting a record as the world’s thinnest manually-wound mechanical movement, the ultra-thin pocket-watch created in 1907, heralded a new chapter in the history of the Grande Maison. In 2013, in tribute to 180 years of watchmaking tradition, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents a new ultra- thin wristwatch. With a new case measuring just 4.05 mm thick and a movement reflecting the full watchmaking expertise of Jaeger-LeCoultre, this creation has found its place within the legacy of exceptional watches produced by the Manufacture. Its “knife-shaped” ultra-thin case in extra-white platinum measuring 39 mm in diameter is the ultimate expression of a timeless minimalist philosophy. The hour-markers, the traditional minute circle and the grained silver-toned finish of its dial are inspired by the aesthetics of previous pocket-watches by Jaeger-LeCoultre, while radiating an admirable sense of elegance and clarity. At its heart beats the mechanical manual winding movement 849, measuring a mere 1.85 mm thick, which reflects the watchmaking expertise of the Grande Maison in the field of extreme thinness. In a nod to the 180th anniversary of the Manufacture, the date 1833 placed beneath the logo will be the hallmark of the 880-piece limited series. A vibrant tribute to Antoine LeCoultre, the Master Ultra Thin Jubilee is the visible result of intangible principles combining respect for time-honoured savoir-faire with an indomitable innovative force enabling Jaeger-LeCoultre to remain a major player in watchmaking history for the past 180 years.
