The Grande Maison is also celebrating its 180-year anniversary, and has dedicated the Jubilee collection to its founder: “Tribute to Antoine LeCoultre”. Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee, a new pinnacle of the watchmaking art

The Jaeger-LeCoultre gyrotourbillon is an authentic 21st century watchmaking sensation that now appears for the first time with a flying tourbillon, a blued gold balance and a spherical-shaped balance-spring. The Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 also achieves another feat by combining the prodigious precision of the spherical tourbillon with the first instantaneous digital-display chronograph presented within a Grande Complication watch. The Jaeger-LeCoultre engineers and watchmakers have combined technical inventiveness with a degree of refinement demonstrating a mastery of all aspects of the watchmaking art: the aluminium carriage of the gyrotourbillon has undergone a surface treatment that enhances its ability to reflect the light. The lightness and sturdiness of aluminium generally results in diminished radiance that considerably reduces the reflection of light rays. In this case, the material has reflective properties that enable light to stream into the very heart of the spherical tourbillon. Its perfect circle is matched by a pure design inspired by an ultra-thin 1907 pocket-watch. Through this new accomplishment, the founder’s creative approach to his profession is more vibrantly alive than ever. Setting a record as the world’s thinnest manually-wound mechanical movement, the ultra-thin pocket-watch created in 1907, heralded a new chapter in the history of the Grande Maison. In 2013, in tribute to 180 years of watchmaking tradition, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents a new ultra- thin wristwatch. With a new case measuring just 4.05 mm thick and a movement reflecting the full watchmaking expertise of Jaeger-LeCoultre, this creation has found its place within the legacy of exceptional watches produced by the Manufacture. Its “knife-shaped” ultra-thin case in extra-white platinum measuring 39 mm in diameter is the ultimate expression of a timeless minimalist philosophy. The hour-markers, the traditional minute circle and the grained silver-toned finish of its dial are inspired by the aesthetics of previous pocket-watches by Jaeger-LeCoultre, while radiating an admirable sense of elegance and clarity.
