The library of Jean-Claude Sabrier is enriched

Jean-Claude Sabrier’s Library is enriched with the acquisition of new works by Ferdinand and Louis Berthoud.

In May 2015, F.P.Journe acquired the entirety of Jean-Claude Sabrier’s horological Library, one of the great names in Horology, international expert and distinguished historian, while, it was put up for sale in Paris. 273 lots representing nearly thousand written works, including among them significant manuscripts by Ferdinand Berthoud, Pierre Le Roy, Antide Janvier, Abraham Louis Breguet, Thomas Mudge,...

Today, the Library is enriched with the acquisition of new works:

– Ferdinand Berthoud : Mémoire sur le travail des horloges et des montres à longitude. Paris 1792

– Louis Berthoud : Entretiens sur l’horlogerie à l’usage de la marine. Paris 1812

– François Crespe : Essai sur les montres à répétition. Paris (Genève) 1804

Testimony to the depth, extent, and pertinence of Jean-Claude Sabrier researches on the lives and achievements of the master watchmakers, constituting a body of work containing crucial technical and historical insights indispensable to their understanding.

This Library could not be scattered nor its content dispersed. It would have been unthinkable for F.P.Journe to waste this opportunity. Instead, he resolved to reunite these important books and built a custom-made cabinet that has been edited in the show room of the Manufacture F.P.Journe in Geneva.

Jean-Claude Sabrier and François-Paul Journe first met 40 years ago in Paris and immediately recognized in each other a kindred spirit. Both were irresistibly drawn to the mysteries and great achievements that mark the history of watchmaking. A profound friendship based on mutual respect that F.P. Journe erpetuates with the exhibition of this unique library
