Luc Pettavino succeeds in everything he does, yet he’s the type who stays in the wings, prepared to talk about his projects but not himself and professing to refuse interviews. “I don’t want to be a media figure,” he says. “Think of me like the conductor of an orchestra, bringing talented musicians together so that with, and thanks to, them I can play wonderful symphonies. Luc left the MYS to devote himself heart and soul, with all his typical ardour, to his life’s cause: the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (AMM).
His new challenge is to mount plans of action and find effective treatments for sufferers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It was in February 2000 that his own son, Paul, was diagnosed with this extremely debilitating genetic neuromuscular disease that affects one boy in every 3500. Luc at once decided to do everything he could for this cause: “My driving force is the health of my son and 250,000 other children, adolescents and young adults around the world.”
