GPHG 2014: Margot crowned winner of the Ladies’ High Mech category

Christophe Claret and his team at the Christophe Claret manufacture are pleased to announce that Margot was honoured with the top award for the Ladies’ High Mech category by the jury at the 14th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève at a red carpet ceremony, which was held October 31st at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in front of 1500 VIP guests. This prestigious distinction was awarded to the first Christophe Claret timepiece created exclusively for women, which features a complication combining innovation, poetry, aesthetics and romanticism.

The moment Christophe Claret was called onto the stage at the Grand Théâtre de Genève to receive his award, he had this to say: “I always had a dream that one day I would create an extraordinary complication for women. The award that I have been presented for Margot is truly a great honour because it confirms that this daring challenge was a triumph.”

Presented for the first time this March at Baselworld, Margot won over the jury with its originality and style. This timepiece combines high-precision watchmaking and romanticism in a playful, interactive spirit.

Margot’s automatic winding movement features an enchantingly innovative complication that lets the wearer ‘pick’ the petals off a daisy on the dial. “He loves me… he loves me not.” A game of luck, or a game of love? What hopeless romantic hasn’t ever picked the petals off a daisy to discover how their sweetheart feels about them? With Christophe Claret’s Margot, time is wooed infinitely. With each press of the pusher at 2 o’clock, a crystalline chime resonates and a petal – sometimes a pair of petals, it is impossible to foresee – subtly disappears under the dial in a smooth action, perfectly depicting the delicate undressing of the flower. The eagerly-awaited answer (in French) appears in a window at 4 o’clock.

Who would have thought that a game of love could be played out on a high-end mechanical watch? The feminine gold case has a curved profile to marry with even the most slender of wrists. The natural mother of pearl dial exudes romantic femininity, revealing delicately engraved verses penned by Victor Hugo. A pair of gold-tipped, steel hands glides over the 12 white, satin-lacquered titanium petals that tightly embrace the central citrine pistil.

Three pear-shaped diamonds at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock poetically punctuate the scene. The display back reveals the automatic winding rotor – a delicately carved, flower-shaped carousel of colours symbolizing sentiments of love. Margot is the perfect allegory for Christophe Claret’s desire to create a watch that is both charming and complex, the ultimate embodiment of women. Margot blossoms in four limited editions of 20 pieces each.

The first versions of Margot, in diamond-set white or red gold, are now available at all of Christophe Claret’s official retail partners.
