Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar

Press Release – SIHH 2019

Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar

The Clifton Baumatic collection presented at the 2018 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) now extends to include a new model, the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar. Baume & Mercier is revealing a new watch interpretation that combines the BM13 version of the Baumatic movement with a perpetual calendar. The perfect expression of historical House expertise, the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar will win over aficionados of grand complications.

Reliable And Effective

The Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar combines the Baume & Mercier spirit of innovation with its more than 188 years of watchmaking expertise. The Maison chose to combine the Baumatic BM13-1975AC-1 movement with a perpetual calendar module to bring its latest creation to life. The Baumatic self-winding movement offers optimal reliability. In addition to a five-day power reserve, the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar resists to the main magnetic fields of daily life. This model only requires maintenance service once every seven years rather than three to five years recommended for a traditional watch.

By indicating the date, the day of the week, the month and the phases of the moon while automatically taking into account the variable lengths of months and the leap year cycle, the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar deserves its place among the most complex watches with this complication. It requires no date correction before March 1st, 2100, a non-leap year.

Pure, Refined Design

The Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar offers a captivating design that is both modern and timeless. The “warm white” porcelain finish of its dial is enhanced by facetted riveted hour markers and gold-tone hour, minute and seconds hands. Three counters are reserved to the perpetual calendar: the first at 9 o’clock for the day of the week, the second at 12 o’clock for the month and leap year cycle, and the third at 3 o’clock for the perpetual calendar. The blued hands accentuate the calendar functions, and the moon phase indication appears on the dial at 6 o’clock. To ensure better readability, the dial is protected by a domed antiglare sapphire crystal.

The 42 mm satin-finished 18K red gold case of the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar is just 12.1mm thick. The caseback is protected by a sapphire crystal that reveals the calibre’s refined finishes, such as the circular-grained bridges and the sand-blasted, snailed baseplate. The openworked, gold-plated oscillating weight is adorned with a decoration combining Côtes de Genève with snailing. Within the movement, the lyre is shaped like the Phi character, the Baume & Mercier symbol representing the House quest for perfection.

In the pursuit of comfort, Baume & Mercier mounts the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar on the curved lugs of a black alligator strap with an 18K red gold buckle. This interchangeable strap may be exchanged on a whim.

In the last few years, Baume & Mercier has presented several models revisiting emblematic watch complications. Among them are the Clifton 1830 Manual (2013), the Clifton 1892 Tourbillon Volant (2014), the Clifton Réserve de Marche 8 jours “185 years” (2015) and the Clifton Pocket Watch 5 minutes Repeater “185 years” (2015). By combining watchmaking innovation with tradition, the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar once again expresses the Brand’s expertise in the complication field. The Maison brings fine watch aficionados not only a timepiece with an elegant, classical design, but also a contemporary, high-performance interpretation of the perpetual calendar.
