The Only Watch auction is organized every two years under the high patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Luc Pettavino, President of the "Association Monegasque contre les Myopathies". Very soon it will be offering collectors from around the world the opportunity to bid for a unique piece by Carl F. Bucherer, who is participating in the now-international event for the first time. The aim? To raise money for medical research of this rare illness.

A unique reference for a unique gesture

Ideally, if we are to partake in a major charity operation, we should do so with a product which is likely to draw the attention of enthusiasts of fine watches. Hence, the Lucerne-based brand has chosen to offer the white gold Manero chronograph that features a much-appreciated complication: the Perpetual Calendar. Enthusiasts who are familiar with the manufacture’s catalogue will no doubt have noticed that this is a reference that did not exist hitherto in this version of the noble metal. Therefore, all the money its lucky owner spends on the acquisition of the piece will make them unique in the eyes of those who have a vast knowledge of watchmaking.

A complication for city dwelllers

The piece’s chronograph function is known and used by city dwellers to measure the duration of their paid-for important duties. Yet, this 42.5-mm fly-back chronograph is also equipped with a perpetual calendar, a much sought-after complication, which displays the day, date, month and moon phases on the dial until 2100 with the utmost precision. Such a feat is due to a cam mechanism that takes into account the duration of every month – including February, and leap years.

The lucky bidder who wins this unique piece will need to remember that to make the best of their new acquisition without having to trifle with it too often, the piece should be placed on an automatic winding instrument before putting it back into its presentation case. Having said that, there is no doubt the wonderful watch, which has the auction's date inscribed on its black dial, will rarely be closed in its presentation case. Indeed, it is so comfortable on the wrist it will most surely accompany its future owner in their everyday life. Said future owner will certainly rejoice in showing everyone how each one of the piece’s element has been treated with care down to the smallest detail.

And so, it won’t be surprising to see them open the gold pin buckle of the alligator strap to show those who are skeptical about the watch's rarity, the engraving: "Only Watch 2015 - Pièce Unique - Fabriqué en Suisse". In other words, the piece is an expression of discreet excellence… And that is indeed a rare luxury nowadays!
