Watches & Wonders: Oris Delights With Their New Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy”

There’s a new pastel prince in town.

Oris is no stranger to bronze timepieces. The brand first used the material in the first Carl Brashear Limited Edition in 2016. And it has since gone on to use it in its Divers Sixty-Five, Big Crown Pointer Date, and Hölstein Edition Chronograph. In fact, just last year, during the lockdown, we partnered with Oris for our Patina Diaries page, which brought together bronze Oris owners from around the world to share their love of this easy to oxidize metal.

Introducing the Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy”

With spring in full bloom and the expanding availability of COVID vaccines, hope and optimism are on the horizon. Let's face it; the past year has not been easy. For many, watches have been a welcome respite from the throes of a global pandemic, a reminder of a bygone era when existential dread wasn't spread instantaneously via digital mediums.

A bit of joy is exactly what Oris is trying to send out into the world with its new Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” range. These fun unisex timepieces feature a bright palette of pastel colors that can almost certainly warm the hearts of anyone down in the dumps about the last year.

Moreover, for the first time, Oris is releasing an entirely bronze Divers Sixty-Five. The bezel, case, and, yes, even the bracelet are all made of a nearly pure copper and tin alloy (a.k.a. bronze). The “Cotton Candy” models aren’t the first Oris watches with a bronze bracelet, as 2020's Hölstein Edition featured one. But as more watch brands (who shall remain unnamed) jump on the bronze bandwagon - using gold-infused bronzes, ceramic bronzes, faux-bronzes, and even coated bronzes to avoid aging (ack!) – with this new edition, Oris is sticking to the good stuff.

Sized at a respectable 38mm, the Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” is a midsize offering for Oris fans of any gender. This three-piece collection offers three dial variants: sky blue, wild green, and lipstick pink.

The Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” has all of the features that Divers Sixty-Five fans have come to know and love. A domed sapphire crystal, 100 meters (328 ft) of water resistance, and a charming design with a meaty crown and super bright Super-Luminova hands and applied indices.

The watches are powered by the Oris 733 movement, which is a Sellita SW200-1 automatic calibre. The Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” boasts a power reserve of 38 hours and beats at 28,800 bph. Furthermore, the movement is hacking (meaning the second hand will stop when the crown is pulled out) and features a quick-set date.

As a Hölstein Edition owner, I can attest that a watch with a bronze bracelet has no inherent adverse effect on clothing or heightened allergy risk. Of course, due to the oxidizing nature of bronze, the wearer of any bronze watch may find a small amount of green tint (a.k.a. copper carbonate) on their skin after wearing a bronze watch, but to me, that adds to the charm.

The Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” is sure to be a hit with many fun-loving watch enthusiasts. It's the perfect watch for either spring or summer and will undoubtedly serve as a talking piece at your next watch meet-up, which will hopefully be sooner than we think!

Pricing & Availability

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five “Cotton Candy” is priced at $2,450 on a leather strap with a bronze buckle and $2,750 on the bronze bracelet with folding clasp. All versions of the “Cotton Candy” will be available in June 2021 at your nearest Oris retailer and on Oris’ official website.
