Oris Adds a Touch of Bronze to the Diver Sixty-Five
Hot off the heels of the new Carl Brashear Bronze Chrono, Oris expands their bronze offerings to the Diver 65. Now in 36mm and 40mm.
The Diver Sixty-Five is arguably the most popular Oris in all the land. It’s fitting that at Baselworld 2018 the brand re-focuses on their ever-popular diver.
Introducing the Diver Sixty-Five Bronze Bezel
We were able to experience the 40mm version at Oris’ Basel preview last year in Colorado. However, the 36mm version is a surprise. These two models appear to be identical in look yet only vary in size. The new bronze bezels have a polished look that sets them apart from the matte variants in the Carl Brashear line.
On both models, the hands and indices are comprised of PVD rose gold which lends to a tasteful two-tone look. It remains to be seen how the updated bronze composition will patina over time. I have a feeling the polished bronze will obtain a subtler, less dramatic tone.
Hands-On
The pieces are actually quite striking in person. While you may argue that the bronze bezel is a relatively minor addition, I found it to be quite clever. By keeping nearly all elements stainless steel while adding a touch of two-tone via the bezel and hands/indices it’s a very sharp look. The 40mm version wore well on my 7.5” wrists and you can make the case that the 36mm version could even be unisex.
Summary
By offering a 36mm and 40mm version, Oris is providing their clients a choice for every wrist and budget. Pricing for the 36mm Oris Diver Sixty-Five Bronze bezel starts at $1,975 USD on leather or Nato and $2,175 on steel bracelet. The 40mm version is just a few bucks more at $2,000 on leather or Nato, and $2,200 USD on bracelet.
