The New TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date Models Add Handy, Everyday Functionality to a Cornerstone Collection

Debuted at the recent Watches and Wonders conclave in Geneva, the watchmaker’s iconic Carrera Day-Date returns in a refurbished, rethought collection that goes the extra mile in wrist appeal and sophistication.

The argument can be made that on nearly any timepiece, the impact of a classic, two-window day/date function at 3 o’clock is one of those additions that might be more notable in its absence. Without it, something just kind of feels missing from the watch’s face; however, when it is there, it amps up the functionality and design of the dial real estate, providing helpful information to be used daily.

Fortunately for us, with TAG Heuer’s half-dozen new Carrera Day-Date models (including one special date-only GMT version), handy functionality never looked so good.

An understated cornerstone and staple of TAG’s offerings, the new Carrera Day-Date models not only fold new movements and refined, modern design cues into the elegantly diverse mix of new models, but they pivot the decidedly racy “tool watch” nature of the Carrera into a more elegant, everyday-wear sphere.

The Daily Engine

Based on the manufacture TH31-02 (and TH31-03 for the Twin-Time GMT date-only variant) automatic movements, the new Carrera Day-Dates all carry a robust 80-hour power reserve, a 41mm steel case, a 100-meter water resistance rating, and a shield-shaped rotor, visible through a transparent caseback.

Moreover, the Carrera Date’s bezel geometry has been rethought, offering a greater sense of depth inspired by the brand’s popular, vintage-feeling Carrera “Glassbox” crystal innovation from 2023.

Green for Go

Leading the pack, both in terms of function and bold design, TAG Heuer’s new Carrera Date Twin-Time easily makes up for its date-only function (at the expected 6 o’clock position) with a flexible, red-tipped GMT hand, Arabic hour markers, and gauged bezel.

The 41mm brushed and polished steel timepiece is the Carrera Date collection’s most technical model and features a vibrant teal-green dial framed by a split-color bezel in color-matched teal and crisp white.

This chromatic combination proves to be the perfect backdrop for the third, red-tipped GMT hand (matching the red “Twin Time” dial badging), adjustable from the single crown at 3 o’clock. Expect 100 meters of water resistance, to boot.

Racing Livery

Of the five new full-fledged day/date models, the sleek Ref. WDA2100.FC6614 probably best combines the elements of functional classicism with the Carrera’s inherent track-ready DNA.

Simple rhodium-plated, lumed bar hour indices pop nicely off a black grained dial; ditto on the blue 60-second scale on the outer flange, red central seconds hand, and two-frame day/date window.

However, the perforated black calfskin with vibrant light blue lining strap lends this model a distinct driver-worthy aspect to this Carrera Day-Date that the rest of these new models do not have.

Dialed In

Additionally, exquisite day/date variants with deep sunray-brushed blue dials and alluringly smokey red opaline dials (Ref. WDA2112.BA0043 and Ref. WDA2113.BA0043 respectively) bring some beautiful boldness to the TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date family.

Offered on steel three-row bracelets, these two models give off a more everyday-wearer vibe while still leaning into the Carrera’s sportiness.

A Touch of Gold

Upping the sophistication level of the collection, the black opaline-dialed Ref. WDA2111.BA0043 and WDA2111.BD001 bring some exclusive gleam as potential evening-appropriate Day-Date models with their shimmering rose gold details.

For the former variant, which comes on an all-steel three-row bracelet, 18K 5N rose-gold plating adorns the hour indices; hour, minute, and central seconds hands; the TAG dial logo; and the framing of the day/date window at 3 o’clock.

Meanwhile, the latter reference is essentially the same, except this version has 18K 5N rose gold center links on its steel bracelet, injecting a fuller bi-color zeitgeist into the collection.
